The protective plastic that is covering the thread where the awning is joined at the trailer roofline is cracking and peeling.  This is causing the thread to be exposed and I'm worried that the Florida sun and rain will cause dry rot.  What product is out there that can be applied to protect the thread on the awning?  It looks like a teflon coating was used originally.

I don't know about the teflon coating, but the thread on the awning bag where it attaches to rubber piece that slides into the roof channel came apart on mine. It happened during a wind storm down at Long Key SP at 4 AM it was already deteriorated but I didn't give it much thought till it came apart. I took it to a marine canvas shop and had it replaced, they also replaced the zipper at the same time with a marine grade one. Cost me $65.00 and now it's much better than it ever was when new with dual stitching. The only thing was the original rubber piece was gray and the new one was only available in white, I like it better in white.:)

Could you use clear acrylic nail polish to touch it up?

Once you get it repaired, try a product like 303 Aerospace Protectant to protect it. You can also use this stuff on tires, vinyl molding, and anything that deteriorates when exposed to the sun. There are similar products in RV product magazines.

I think I've got it solved.  I went to Home Depot, got a tube of marine goop and applied it over the seam and threads.  That should do it.
