I woke up this morning, looked out the window at a clear day, saw some squirrels playing on a tree, opened the window & wished them a Happy New Year. They looked up & then continued playing without wishing me one back. I don't think they realized that another year has passed! :(

So, in keeping with the squirrels and other animals thinking, I announced that my resolution for the "new year" was to delay all "days-when-you-give-presents-to someone", other than birthdays, by 2 days!

Take Valentines day (please) for example. Every year Peggy says not to buy her anything. (Sure, just try skipping that one guys! ;) ) I go to the store, and amongst other things,  buy some heart shaped candy boxes, at $20 each, for her and mom. Now, the day AFTER Valentines day, those same boxes are selling for $1-5! Ridiculous.

For the "after xmas" sales, things are 50-75% off around here. The "after halloween" candy sells for 75-90% off. And, it goes on & on.

The point is that someone set these dates to keep their sales up throughout the year. The dates are arbitrary in nature and so, I'm changing them. On the "actual day", I'll give them a card that says "you'll be receiving such & such within 2 days". (For halloween, the kids can come back in 2 days or I'll just eat whatever candy is there for them).

It's time to wait a day or two on these "special days" & keep the extra $$$ in your pocket (where it belongs). :) ;)

topcat,  you are not alone.  I know several people who go out and buy all their gifts for next year right after Christmas when they can buy at less than 1/4  of  the original sticker price.  Then, they just store the assortment in their closets until next December.  That doesn't work too well for Valentine's or Halloween, though.  Non one wants year old candy.:(   The day or two after is when I go get the real bargains for myself.:D

Oh, oh, oh! Guilty as charged!   Alas, Nancy,  I have often purchased very nice things along with little "odds and ends" on "the day after" (name the holiday)  for a much reduced price.  The only problem with this system is that, with only the two of us,   we have a lot of attic space under the eaves and in also several closets used mainly as a place  for  "poking things into" packrat style.  (To say nothing of the temptation to stick other little  items into drawers here and there in the house.) Finding these gifts when "their special day" arrives is not always easy.  In fact, frequently it is impossible, and they remain hidden until I accidently stumble over them long after their intended holiday is past..

The end result is that family members are no longer the least bit surprised when they get Stocking Stuffers in their Easter Baskets and little Easter Treasures in their stockings.  (NO stale candy--at least I would NEVER stoop THAT low!)

Al, why does it not surprise me that  you try to get away with this sort of thing?  I mean after all, anyone who would attempt to kidnap Camper Jones for their own dark purposes  is capable of just about anything.  (And by the way, I know from what "Mom" said to me on the phone Thursday night that she is onto your little tricks.)  (But she loves you anyhow.)
