We went to Gatlinburg, TN Saturday to check CG's for our June trip
for a week. I had thought I had viewed them all on my trip 2 years
ago. WRONG!!!! We found another 5-6 CG's and these were not the ones
in Townsend, TN. I tried to get the group to ride over there, but
that was too far to drive and these folks want to be in the middle of
the action..Remember this is the TT group not the ole' die hard pop upper's.
We are camping at Twin Mountains RV park, Pigeon Forge, TN... What-
ever. I saw 2 popups there and one MH and several 5er's. This place
is open year round (clean bath house and pool area) and the one up the
road had around 25-30 campers parked in it. 2 popups and lots of big
rigs and 5er's.
We checked every campground out that we could and few that were closed; we parked and walked around in them. The KOA up in Gatlinburg lives up
to its name "Kamin'On Asphalt" Only grass was in the natural areas.
The sites we are staying at have grass in the "backyard" right down
to creek.. The kids will loves this..And maybe the adults also..
Now we left here at 5am Sat. knowing the weather MIGHT change..
The weatherman is never right!! "IS HE!!!"
Well he might be right this time..
We stayed the night in Pigeon Forge at Fairfield Inn.. We went to bed
around 10pm with thoughts of some shopping and then eating lunch at
the Apple Barn....Well I was up at 6am with a light drizzle.. By 9am
it was raining pretty good.. Everybody said we should head home just
in case!!! In case of what?????
We rode back through Gatlinburg and got on US331 heading back to I-40
the rain was falling and we were talking about what a nice trip this
was and looking forward to this summer and a weeks stay up here.. Got
on I-40 and headed for good ole' NC. Went through the first tunnel
and came out the other side with a little mixed snow in the rain..
Next tunnel came out and all snow with a light dusting on the ground.
IS that weatherman right???
We stopped at the rest area inside the NC line.. We went into the
restrooms and the sidewalk was wet, came back out and the sidewalks
were covered in white.. This isn

Glad you made it home safely. Some people have no idea how to drive in snow, and some are just plain unlucky.

Glad you made it back OK -- we've had really bad weather yesterday and last night.  They had to shut down I75 south (several hours yesterday) just past the OH/KY boarder (aka, the cut in the hill) due to bad roads -- then after that, I heard that they had to shut it down again -- as an RV caught fire and when the fire department got it out, it created ice all over the road AGAIN -- so again shut down (never heard for how long).

I'm just glad we don't travel with the PU in the winter.

When roads get icy I stay indoors.  It isn't worth getting out unless there is an emergency.  So far we are getting a bit of freezing rain around the Pinehurst area and back up toward Carthage.  I expect this will continue a while and make travel conditions even worse.  Gov. Easley has declared a state of emergency and ordered the Nat Guard to help with searches and rescue efforts when necessary.  The Hwy Patrol says to stay off roads unless absolutely necessary.  It will all be melted in a couple of days and things will be back to normal.  I have plenty of supplies in case the power goes off.  Then, I will just get bad withdrawal from the puter.  ;)
