We just bought a starcraft spacemaster with a slide out dinnette! We are wondering about setup and take down of the unit. If anybody has a slide out could you tell us alittle about what comes out first and what goes back in first as far as bunks and the slide out?? Thanx to all!!

We have a Coleman Bayside... and the way we set up and take down is like this.  Setting up, we take the bunks out first and then the slideout. On the taking down, we just reverse it.  We slide the sldieout in first and then the bunks.  Be careful because there is a lot of stuff that can get trapped in the slides of the bunks when you slide them in. Have fun!!

We do the same as above, be extra careful with the tenting on the slide out when you sliding it back in ours has been cought a few times, also if you cannot get the slide to go in check and make sure you took the shepard hook out!! WE tried to push and push and then remembered the hook:)

We have a Utah.   Here we go with a stupid pop up trick, but it is right on point.

When we were taking down in Gettysburg after a super weekend. When the unit was still new, we pushed the slide out in but left one of the metal backs for the seats, partially up.....(I know, I know.....hurry hurry and pay the price) so when the bunk slid over it jammed.

Just like when a drawer has something in it in an upward position, nothing would move either in or out.  After cussing and getting that "there goes my investment, warm, but not fuzzy feeling" we were able, (only after calming way down,)....to free it with much, much, much effort.  Nothing really to get a hold of without possibly causing irrevocable damage.

No damage done, but what an ugly feeling.....and a poor way to end a great trip.

As far as the tenting on the slide-out goes, it is a seperate step to make sure once you slide the slide out in, the tenting must then be pulled all the way out.

If your Spacemaster is anything like the Gemini I was looking at, the slide-out's go further out in the Starcraft than the Coleman, and as such they have their own set of stabilizer jacks?!?! Ya gotta make sure they are up before sliding in. Also, make sure your aisle is completely clear before sliding in, as it will fill the entire center aisle Be that as it may, this makes the Starcraft a little roomier inside when deployed...

Our saying too, "First In, Last out"

When popping down it is First In

When popping up it is Last Out

Our door is attached to the ceiling when not in use.. make sure you put the door up before you slid the "slide" in or you have to climb around and on top to hang the door up!! Yes we have done it but what a pain in the butt...

Thanks for this info as I am considering one with a slide.  I have noticed that some of them have an electric switch for  putting the slide out and in.  Is the procedure here for the manual or the electric type?

Gone-Camping

I think the biggest difference you're going to notice (when in closed position) is the center aisle will be pretty much gone. If you used to keep things in the aisle, then ya gotta find a new place for them. Between the slide and the Swing Level Galley, that pretty much fills up most of the aisle.

I agree with all of the the above.  One way to think of it is that end bunks only have 'rails' to slide on when glider is 'in'.  So setting up...pull bunks out first while the rail is in place....then pull glider out.  Reverse is true for take down...slide glider in first to move rail back in place...then push bunk it over its rail.

In other words...they told you right!
Enjoy your new camper!

Someone just told me that some slides are pulled out and pushed back in manually.  Other campers do have the electric switch that moves the slide out and in.

If you were like us, you will always have the most unlevel or rocky site, so we bring two bottle jacks with us, because half the time you can't get the stabilizer down or locked because of a **** rocks! also they are faster and easier to use, we just put a block on the top of the  rod and pump  that little jack right up!
