Snowed in activities

When the weather is kind of bad like it has been in south central NC today, what kind of activities do you do inside until the weather improves?  I wouldn't want to be out on the road in snowy, sleeting weather as it is just too dangerous.  In a couple of days it will all be melted.  I like to read and to catch up on the things piled up on my desk by organizing everything just right.  Of course, I also try to catch up on my reading on PUT.;)   It's good to catch a Sunday afternoon "catnap," write a few notes to friends, address some birthday cards in advance, give the kids and grandkids a quick call, and just do anything that I want to do....all from the house.  So, do most of you just "kick back" and do nothing or do you have a particular routine for those bad weather days that keep you inside?

I love to watch old movies, and then the kids like to break out the board games!!

How about IT?

I've been catching up on laundry.  With going to college at 9 and working till 9, doesn't leave much time for it.

Our weather here has been on the "brisk" side this past weekend, and it wasn't worth all the trouble of warming up the vehicle and driving somewhere, just to get out and let it get cold again before you had to come back home, and too cold to be outside much.  So, we went to the local video store and stocked up on DVDs, picked up some soda pop, Orville Redenbacher's, M&Ms, Junior Mints, Milk duds etc, and vegged for the weekend.   Problem with that is that after you rent the darn things, you feel like you have to watch them, even if they aren't very good.

We got about 6 inches of snow last night and may get an inch or so of ice on top of that late today.  I'm enjoying working from home today. I'm doing my job but doing it while connected to the office by Wireless VPN with cell phone beside me, kicked back on my couch, feet propped on the ottoman, a cup of coffee next to me, the dog at my feet, DH in the recliner working in the same way, dressed in my warm sweats and flannel.  Ahhh, this is the way to work!   I could do this in the summer from the popup!  LOL

Once my work is done..I love to read, watch the cooking or decorating shows on the tv, and cook something yummy.  No kiddos to entertain anymore.

This a.m. the birds were  coming in to get to their seeds I had thrown out on top of the snow-ice because I couldn't walk to the bird feeder to fill it.  It was just too slick.  The birds also couldn't walk on the ice.  They were sliding everywhere on the slope of the yard.  I decided to throw some seed out on the more level part of the yard but it was fun watching all the birds sliding around for a while.

I really feel left-out reading the  cozy things you-all are doing.  Unfortunately, before the ice storm I had begun pulling things out of closets and the attic  to take to a local re-sale shop benefitting a local womens' shelter.  The more I "explored",  the more uneeded things I found, the worse the mess got and now I have these little "mountains" which I have to finish sorting and folding  and then  take away just as soon as the weather clears.

I'd really rather do something fun, but these piles of stuff are gnawing away at the back of my head.   :(

You need to learn to kick back and do something you enjoy that is not "work."  Housework=work for some folks.  You know it will keep and it will be waiting for you, no matter what. I know, I know.....you needed to get it done.  It sounds like real cabin fever has set in on you when you become so bored that nothing is fun in the house.  Just tune in to some of those daily "trash talk shows" for a few minutes and you will snap back to reality.:D :J

Nancy, I think the above post is a good place for you to include that disclaimer about not being a trained therapist.       ;)  :J  :W

I've been looking foward to some snow believe it or not!!  DH's plow took the proverbial crap before Christmas.  Five hundred bucks later it is perfect shape.  Of course since we spent that money (that we really didn't have) we haven't had more that a dusting of snow in over a month.  Well, we're getting that storm here in the North East and  they're saying 10-14 inches by tomorrow PM.  Jay is going to go out and hopefully recoup some $.  I'm gonna stay nice and warm inside with the kiddies, make some popcorn, and pop in a DVD the whole time thinking ca-ching!  BTW since he only does this on the side he can be reasonable and not take advantage.  He's charging one lady 40 bucks to do her driveway when the guy she had last year charged he $50 every 2 inches.

Sounds like a really great and economical service to me.  However, it won't work on the glazed over stuff we have on top of about 2" of snow and sleet.:(
