Any ideas on a good campground in or around Savannah ? Wife and I were there two years ago and had so much fun, we just have to back with kids and camper this time. What an awesome old southern town !!  Thanks

How about 56 miles away?  I love Hunting Island State Park.  It's 56 miles south of Savanah right on the ocean.

How about Skidaway State Park?  We were there about a year ago.  The sites were spread apart and private, clean bathrooms, just alittle hard to get to, close to downtown (about 15 mins).  We would definitely go back.

I would agree with pirocamper. Skidaway has some large sites and the several times that we have stayed there the Park has not been that busy. It is very close to Downtown, the University Marine research facility with an aquarium is also on the island. Out by the airport is the Mighty 8th Museum (the Mighty 8th was an Air Force bomber group during WWII) definitely worth the visit. If this is your firist time in Savannah the bus tours of historical Savannah provide a great overview of the city. There are also several houses that you can tour, As well the Tellfair museum is free on Sundays (at least it was the last few times we were there)

Have fun

I agree, great park! Will be going back there very soon.

We have stayed at both parks and give thumbs up to both.  If visiting Savannah, however, I would go to Skidaway for the convenience and the fact that we loved Skidaway.  Rest assured that you can't go wrong either way.  Skidaway is not all that difficult to get to and they do have great directions (on their website I think).

We stayed there for a week last March and really liked it.  Plenty of trees dripping with Spanish Moss.  The sites were very spacious.  We were there for the house and garden week and went to Savannah every day.  It was quite convenient.  We stayed one night in a historical B&B on Forsythe park and liked it, but we really preferred the peace and quiet at the campground.
