I just bought a 2001 Chevy LS Tahoe 2WD as our TV.  I want to put on the Prodigy brake controller but I have never installed one.  Any recommendation or suggestion on the installation?  Do I need to buy the "special" wiring harness for the GM trucks?  The Tahoe does have a trailer plug already installed but that is about all I know.  We just got it this evening and the dealer did not know much about the it.  Thanks

Do you have the owners manual for the truck?  If so it should indicate if a controller will just plug  in under the dash.  If so the "special" wiring harness will be worth it's weight in gold.    Connect the four wires to the controller and just plug it in under the dash.  It really couldn't be easier.

Dealers are the most worthless sources of info on towing details, especially brake controllers.

Yes, get the GM harness from either GM or from Camping World.  The Prodigy was also from Camping World.  My Prodigy took less than 10 minutes to install on my Tahoe, most of which was spent removing the old brake controller.  If you have any questions when you get ready to install it - call Tekonsha - they told me exactly what I needed to know clearly and pleasantly.

Prodigy is truly a plug in and go controller.

BTW, I'm in Hagerstown - you're welcome to look at our installation and I would be willing to help you.

Congratulations on your new tow vehicle. :)

If the TV has a towing package I bet there is a plug under the dash to plug in your Prodigy.  Yes get the GM wire harness and it is really plug and play.  You plug one end into the plug under the dash and the other into the Prodigy.  If you  don't have the plug under the dash there will be some soldering involved in connecting the Prodigy wire to the TV.

The only other thing you need to do is decide where to mount the Prodigy.  I have mine on the right side of the dash, slightly under the dash.  I can reach mine with out looking at it, if I need to activate it manually.  If I remember correctly there were 2 screws to mount the plastic pocket to the dash.  Then slip the Prodigy into the pocket and plug the wires in at both ends and it is installed. :)
