Since no-one here ever saw this part of Turkey, here is a real view from the so so developed part of Turkey.

Man oh man, I had to crop and decrease the quality so much to make it below 40,000 Bytes .... Phewwwwwww

The really oldish part you see in the middle of the picture is the old castle of the city, dating back hundreds of years .......

Looks nice - sometimes I wish we would still be back in those days.  Seems simple and quiet.

Where in Turkey is that?  My dad was stationed in Turkey 35 years ago when he was in the airforce.  I'm sure he will like this pic.

Great pics, thanks for sharing.  Is it safe to travel there?

Safe , define safe :) It is a safe time to go, with the Kurd trouble being dealt with, there isn't much terror related activity going on. As for Al-Qaide thingie, one never know what they will do where and when, in that aspect it is as safe as England or germany or USA I guess.

I wouldn't hesitate to go  though, they are working hard to prevent a reoccurence of the events in Istanbul .....

The city is called Amasra, it is close to the center of the country, I am guessing little bit on the eastern side.

I doubt I will be traveling out of the country.  Travel in this country by air is very troublesome with all the check in stuff.  Take off your shoes if you have anything metal in them, like decorate rivets or metal arches when you go through the scanner.  I didn't like having my purse yanked from me and put back through the machine just as I was taking it off the conveyor.  I told that security lady I didn't allow my purse to be out of my sight due to someone else having theirs stolen right off the belt and that if she needed to search it to go ahead but it would be done in front of me and not out of my sight.  (This is another good reason to keep your ticket in your hands or jacket and at least some money or credit card.)   She would not even speak to me during the whole time.  I even asked what was in it that would make them send it back through again.  She would not answer.  I know there was no metal or anything and I was sent on my way.  It was her hateful attitude and "air" that bothered me.  I think they pick out people at random and do certain things to harrass passengers that go beyond the scope of their rules.  However, I do appreciate their buckling down for safety's sake.  I was later told that this action was contrary to rules, that they cannot just jerk someone's belongings away and send it back through unless the alarm has sounded on the machine.  They can still stop the conveyor and check through the purse or whatever once it has come through, even if the alarm did not sound.  Jerking it away...no.  A friend in my professional organization told about her purse being stolen after she had placed it on the conveyor to go through the xray machine.  It was in a crowded airport and when she walked through the scan point, the purse didn't come out and she saw a man running away behind the line.  A big chase ensued by security but they didn't catch the man....her ticket, money, credit cards, personal id and everything were in that purse.

Very cool picture, Birol. I would love to visit someday. It is so cool to see old cities in other parts of the world where they will actually let older structures live on - unlike in this country where it seems so often a parking structure or bigfoot house is more attractive to local officials (tax $$$). Drives me nuts.

I have a Turkish neighbor, and his American wife loves Turkey - she says it is a very beautiful country, and they try to visit every year or so. He brought his nephew over to spend the summer here with them a couple years ago, and even though he didn't speak a lick of English, he was the same age as my older son and they had a lot of fun together. We tried an English-Turkish dictionary, but found hand signals and using just a few words were easier. They did find one common interest - soccer. They had no problem playing that together - it was really cute.

Interesting photo.... Has that Euro/Mediteranean look to it! I've been to Spain, Southern France, Italy, Greece and Yugoslavia, but never to that corner of the Med!!! Thanks for the peek...
