North Carolina Speedway Camping?

I would really like to try camping at a race track and the Subway 400 looks like a good place to start.  It is not too far from my home (about 2 hours), and the race should be a good one.  They sell camping spaces at the track's web site http://northcarolinaspeedway.com for $50.00 per night.  I would only be able to arrive around 4 to 5 o'clock on Saturday and this is when the Bush race would be letting out.

My questions are:

1.)  Will it be too hard driving aginst traffic with a camper if I arrive late Saturday?
2.)  If I have a "ticket" to camp, will I be able to get into a site without too much trouble-or by then will it be so crowded that it will be close to impossible?
3.) Where is a good section to sit at.  I am looking at the Hamlet grandstand now-price seems ok here.

Thanks!!-I hope this will be a great experience for my son's first race.

Camping at the Rock is fun.  However, most people are already in place well before the Saturday race with lots of them coming in on Thurs or Friday.  Traffic is really routed out of there very efficiently, but I am not sure I would want to be going in to set up camping on Saturday when the race is letting out.  However, if you are very patient, then you will eventually work your way into your campsite.  I think you enter from the NC177 side of the track unless this has been changed.  Be sure to reserve your camping spot right away.  The Hamlet grandstand is very nice as they spent a lot of money on the new seating and concessions stands just a few years ago. Sections 129-133 , rows 19-22 or so is a good place  to be in so you can see the 2nd turn as well as across to the pits.  It's not too high up or too low down.  Have you tried their 3-D interactive map?  That will help you to decide where you want to be.  The Speedway camping is out in the open field behind the Hamlet grandstand and it is a bit of walking to do to get to the grandstand.  I hope you have a great time and report your experience here.  I live in the Pinehurst area to the north about 30 miles from the Speedway and have attended many races at "The Rock."

Can't help you with camping at the Rock...that track is still on my "wish list". However...if you decide to head for Bristol, Charlotte, or Martinsville, let me know. I'll be glad to pass along any helpful hints I might have.

Two Bristol tickets for two Richmond tickets??? Hmmmmm.....NO!

I loved Richmond the one time I went, but in a choice between Bristol and Richmond, Bristol still wins! (Now, if you'd consider trading two Bristol BUSCH tickets for two Richmond CUP tickets, we might talk!  ;)  LOL!!)

If you're interested in trying to get Bristol tickets, check out the "Fan Ticket Swap" page on the track's website:

There's additional camping on private property across from the NC Speedway track along US1 and this usually fills up fast and there is no way to make a reservation.  I think most charge $50 for the whole weekend.  It's on a first come, first served basis.

Thanks LabonteFan...I don't blame you for not wanting to give up Bristol. Seriously, I have 4 extra tickets for Richmond - if you know anyone else who may want to trade.  I'll check the website you gave me, too.  I've always wanted to go to Bristol!

That late on Saturday you will find a spot but you may not like it.
The popups and tents are placed separate on the Rockingham property.
You are on the back side of the track. All the TT, 5ers, MH's are places on the top of the hill and the PU & tents are places down in the bottom of the hill. Any rain the water runs that way. Ask me how 3 years ago I about blew a fuse over this.. I was camping with 2 others in TT and the man at the gate said anywhere and after I was half set-up, I was told I had to move. Well B-flat should remember that post.. I haven't camped on Race track property since. I stay across the street in a private field(100 acres or more) that cost $50 for the whole week no matter how long.
This field is what my wife calls "redneck island" and she has not gone back to Rockingham since. This is our guys weekend. I would tell you I would save you space near us, if I knew for sure I was going. You can rope off as much space as you can and you camp where ever you stop. I am waiting for that Tuesday/Wednesday before to see how the weather will be.
send me an email and I will keep you informed as what we are doing. Only one night you must be planning to dry camp.
They have put in nice new showers for around $5 a shower and they have a water faucet so you can at least get more water if needed and the they have a sewer dump also but the line would be till tomorrow.
I will tell you that this CG is loud and there is NO quiet time and on Saturday night before the race a live band will play somewhere on the property.
any more questions email me!

Randy, I remember that post...however, I have been told that additional space has been cleared on the back side of the track in the camping section and that it has been improved over the past couple of years.  You're plenty generous to offer to save them a spot......then you will have to communicate by cell phone to locate each other as it will be pretty full.  I may go down just for the day....seems to be plenty of tickets on the Hamlet side at  $45 a pop as opposed to $80 on the Rockingham South side (1 & 2 turns).  Weather will be a factor, too, as it can be rainy and cold in February during the race.

After thinking about the traffic on Saturday afternoon, I think I am going to try to just drive up for the race Sunday morning.  It's only a couple of hours away and maybe next year I can plan enough time off work to go early and camp.

Thanks for all of your help

Louise, I've email a couple of friends of mine to see if we can work something up, I might be willing to take all four tickets off your hands for face value! Let me know if this is an option!!!
