2900# using the hitch that I had to special order from Germany for $426.  After we got the Explorer I thought I could recover some of the money by selling it on EBay but the top bid was $38.  What a deal.

Birol I wish that you could make it to the rally. I enjoyed talking to you last year.

Yes Birol we do want you to come to the rally.  You never did visit my campsite and boor me to death with your stories.  You had promised to do that and didn't.  PS HersheyGirl does tow with it, she just doesn't want to get flamed by any one. :D

birol

Well, I looked at your PU a lot while we were passing in front of it, but, it was always full, active and I didn't want to push my luck by just showing up. I am basically a shy guy, in case you didn't notice :)

Disclaimer : I want to come, but, I am afraid of the immigration people, and secondarily, the cost also is a factor of course. I think we will see how it goes when the time comes. We are thinking of going to  eastern Canada this summer  (camping all the way of course)[/size]

If I didn't want you showing up I wouldn't have told you our campsite number. :D

well now he has to come because he didn't stop at mine either, so now he has too, and i'll even let him bring the beer!  ( since all i have is a case of molson gold ) the cabins are close by, if you don't want to load down the van again for the long trip, or i can bring my three room tent and you can use it! i'll even set it up , (for a price!);)

birol

It all depends on how the immigration treats people those days ..... :(

Quote from: birol. I am afraid of your immigration policies and crossing the border these days.

Birol, you are pretty wise not to trust immigration people--especially when you try to get back INTO Canada.

About eight or nine  years ago (mind you, this was way before we all got paranoid after nine eleven) I tried to cross  the International Friendship Bridge--Detroit to Windsor on my way to Toronto to visit friends.  Unfortunately, I was driving A VAN WITH GEORGIA TAGS.

This little b*tch with a French-Canadian accent was SINGLE-HANDEDLY guarding/protecting The Entire CommonWealth of Canada and so, having the IQ of a geniius, she was SURE I was carrying contraband.  Guns and ammo to be exact.  She grilled me for about ten minutes--didnt I have guns with me?   Where was I stashing my ammo?  did I have a gun in my purse? Searched my purse.  Asked me if I OWNED any guns.  (I told her "YES, FOR HUNTING,  BUT THEY ARE AT HOME WHERE THEY BELONG!")   So she told me to pull over for a full search.  When I pulled over, she called her supervisor over to help in the INTERROGATION and the strip search which I was sure was the next step.

It did not help a bit that it could quickly be seen that  my car was not loaded with "stuff" and that I was a very harmless looking middleclass person--for God's sake, someone's grandmother.

I had been polite and patient throughout, knowing that Ga is a major gun-smuggling source and that the city of  Kennesaw has a law requiring gun ownership of all its citizens.  But finally I had had enough of this crap and after being  accused  again while the search was going on "Dont you have any guns with you!" (NOT a question!) I leaned toward the supervisor and confidentially  commented to him.  "You know, that poor girl doesnt seem to  realize that it is illegal to bring guns  across the border.  I think you should explain the law to her." :J

His jaw dropped open--then he realized I was being sarcastic and that this was a ridiculous waste of their time and effort and I HAD NO GUNS WITH ME!!!!  So he told me to drive on and have a nice visit.  :W

Be careful if you have any friends named "Jack" and especially in an airport don't see him across the way and yell "Hi, Jack!" :D   Oh, you've already heard that story. ;) :D :J

birol

Nightowl, I know what you are saying, some of our agents are down right rude ! They are supposed to do their job, efficently, quickly but they are also required to be POLITE ! Some of them don't deserve to be working there. BUT, sooner or later they have to accept me to my country :) There is no fear of that :) With yours, once denied entry, we will probably never be able to get in again, and there are so many places we want to visit, we don't want to risk it. To be honest, I don't recall an immigration agent of USA being rude, and we crossed the border so many times. Were we searched and stuff, yeah, but they were polite.

I think I should get a  special visitors tag or something so they don't harras us too much, after all, we come back each and everytime after a visit.
