Last weekend, we had a chance to go camping at the SP near us. It was glorious! The moon was full, large, and bright and when it rose over the lake it was beautifu! The lake looked like it was sprinkled with diamonds! This was after a cold front had passed through and that can really clear the skies.
It got down to 29 degrees Friday night. We ran the heat strip in our Coleman A/c, which circulated the warm air along with a small electric heater and we were very comfortable. Had to turn the heat down once. We have a furnace in our Rockwood but it is such a noisy thing when it kicks on and off. The heat strip is a softer steady noise. At night, we like to hear the owls hoot and the coyotes when they yap (and boy, were they howling at that full moon!).
Saturday was absolutley gorgeous with sunshine. We had a nice spot with bushes on the sides keeping out the wind. I curled up with my book in my recliner with my black fleece jacket on and I was toasty warm. I was a lounge lizard most of the day except when we went walking and when I cooked the rib-eyes over the campfire for supper. Yum!
We met a really nice retired couple who were from Michigan. They came to TX for the winter arriving in November and weren't leaving until April to go home. They were staying in our little park for two weeks before they moved on to explore other places. I am jealous! Now the kicker is they are staying in a '98 Jayco Eagle PU! For the whole 6 months! Some years ago they had a small travel trailer but had to sell it when they were not able to camp for a time. Last spring they bought the Jayco. The lady said they would have a 5w next year as the PU is too much trouble to pop up and down everytime they moved.
Interesting! But I don't know about staying 6 months in a PU, with no bathroom, in the winter. That could be tough after a time! Still it might be worth a try!
Just thought I'd share the fun!

As long as they are camping and doing what they enjoy, it must be fun for them.  It sounds like they are saving a lot of money and that they will soon move on to a 5w.;)

Brag...Brag...Brag!  Actually I'm jealous.  Sounds like you had a great camping trip to kick off the season.  Good for you!

Starry, it sounds like a wonderful time!  Your vivid description brought back some very happy camping memories to me--probably to anyone who read your post.  And gave us all hope that spring will eventually arrive and WE will be going camping too  :S  :W

Those  senoirs you met were "pioneering" types , for sure! :)

On second thought, those camping neighbors might qualify as "weird camping neighbors."  Maybe they were just pulliing your leg about how long they were camping in their popup.:D

We actually ran into an older couple who were camp hosts in Alaska in a popup!!  They loved the freedom a smaller camper gave them.  Gosh...your story of your lovely trip got to me though..I'm having some serious camping withdrawals!  Enjoy all the time you're able to get out!
