Well they say that the three most stresful situations (those that remove years from your life) are:

  • Death of a spouse
  • Loosing your job
  • Moving

Well, the DW is fine and we both still have a job, but our employer (we work for the same folks) has decided that they would rather have us in a new city

Well, Atlanta here we come.

I doubt if I will get to post (or camp for that matter) much over the next few months, but with a little luck the move will be over before the eastern rally.  Unfortunatly, I will now have a long tow rather than the short one I originally anticipated.

I hope the move goes well and smooth ! having moved two times in two years, I stilll shudder at the thought of having to move, if ever again !

Hopefully it is a good move too ? (wink wink, workwise that is  :!  )

Geez Tim, didn't they just do that to you about a year ago?  I remember a poll or something...

birol

I guess that poll was in preparation for this move  :!

Tim, Hope your move goes smooth.
I hate moving I've moved 5 times in the last 15yrs and hope not to move again but DW is talking about moving into a newer home in the next few years.

brainpause

Hey, you'll only be about 5 hours or so from us! You could take some trips with us and/or TPUC!!!

Hope the move goes well!

tim, I moved twice in 8 months, lost my dog of 18 years, went through a divorce, 2 illnesses, then after well from that suffered from an inflammed rotor cup in my left shoulder, the fiddle player in the band died, the insurance company decided to cancel all major medical policies in NC. When it rained, it poured.  All that happened to me in one year!    I survived it all and life is much better and happier now. Naw, moving is nothing.  Getting ready to move was a lot of work in sorting through years of stuff and giving away what I was not using or would not be needing.  Moving didn't cause me a lot of stress because I had the greatest moving guys in the world.  I wish you the best in your move to Hot 'Lanta.  Moving......stressful?  For some, maybe,  but it was a new adventure for a better life for me.

Moving for our family is sort of a regular thing.... although I thought that I was on my last move when I came here to Halifax, Nova Scotia. That's just the way it is when you're in the military.

Tim... like you, we are getting ready for one of those long-haul moves also. Ours will be a little longer in distance than yours... and although the kids will likely drive me nuts before "we get there!", I always look at the trip as an adventure.

It will take us about 10 days daily driving to get to our new location. Right now we are "stressed-out" with getting the house ready for sale on the real estate market. We sure can relate to that one, if you are doing the same.

The next big stressor will be the buying of the new home... followed by packing up of the furniture and effects... and finally having it all shipped out the the new home. My God! I don't know how I manage to get it all done!

This will be our fifth move since 1993.  Good luck with yours!

BaysideBruce

Tim, I am so sorry to hear that you are moving! :(  Even though we never really met, I'm feeling that I am losing a good neighbor.  I wish you the best in your new town and hope and pray that your move goes well.  Hope you enjoy the new location.  And thanks for all the great reviews of campgrounds in Maryland area!  Best of luck on your new adventure.

Tim, Welcome to Georgia.  I hope the move goes smoothly and that you and DW and Natasha will be very  happy in Atlanta.  It is mostly a good place to live--for a city--We enjoyed it very much while we were there, although neither us  are really "city people.".  It's got universities, several nice musums, a good zoo, good concert season, several REALLY outstanding restaurants.  It wont take you long to learn the ropes of getting around  once you settle in.

We lived   in Brookhaven (a northeastern suburb) where  it was easy to get out of town fast on Friday afternoons and was also  close to Billy's work at Emory.  Just in case you havent bought a house yet, you can buy a LOT more house and land for the money  if you move outside the Perimeter, but if you work in downtown or midtown, it isnt worth it--outside the perimeter, the commute is PURE HELL unless you telecommute or work hours where you dont try to get into town  or go home when everyone else is doing it!  (And anything you buy inside 285 resells quickly and easily--I sold ours myself for our asking price  the first day it was listed to the first people who saw it and we got way more than twice what we paid for it--location, location, location, as usual.)

One other  nice thing, you wont be far from  a bunch of  beautiful and well-run state parks when you can find time to camp again!! :W

dee106

i hope you make the rally, the winery trip won't be the same with out ya!

Tim5055

Acts 2:38 girl,  Actually they were talking about it before, now the done did it ;)

brainpause, I do hope to make it north for some trips.  We just have to find a place and settle in.

BaysideBruce,  I'm hoping to get a trip or two in before we go.  Natasha will not be great for showing the house, so we may need to take her out on a couple of weekends so the house can be shown.

NightOwl,  Thanks for the information.  Not knowing the area is difficult.  We would like to get an acre or two in an area that will hold it's value as we may only be there a couple of years.  You don't happen to know the zip codes of some areas that would fit the bill do you?  We will be working dead center of town so a daily commute is in our future.  So far we have been looking at houses on line in the Roswell and Kennesaw areas.

dee106,  Right now we intend on making the rally.  Originally we hoped to show up on Saturday, but it may be Sunday now.  The only problem is we will be given 120 days to get there and that date will probably be right around the rally.  If our house sells we can move the date up some, so that is what I'm hoping for.

Well, back to painting

NightOwl

Tim, Roswell and Kennesaw are both very nice areas--Roswell is an old, historic town with lots of Civil War history, Kennesaw is "famous" for the law it passed a few years ago that all citizens of the town must own guns, but it  is not the hick Bubba-town some people think it is--also has a very nice and fast-growing university branch with a FANTASTIC new concert hall.  You can find nice  places with land in either area if you are willing to commute in heavy traffic. ( If you both have the same work schedules and  can travel together, it will give you LOTS of "bonding" time :)

The people who bought our Brookhaven home  lived  15 miles beyond
The Perimeter and eventually they were spending an hour and a half to get home at night so they gave up a very nice large house and land for  our smaller place at a much higher price than their old one. ( But they had small children so that was what forced their move back into a more urban setting.)  Still, our place had a large private  wooded backyard  on a ravine with a live stream and  they tell us they all enjoy using it.

Knowing you will be moving again before many years puts you    a step ahead of us in your thinking.   We just bought ours to be close to Emory and never gave re-sale a thought at the time, so it was just dumb luck that we picked a place that moved fast when we were ready to leave Atlanta.

There is lots of new and recent construction in the Atlanta area so you will have many choices available to you. Plenty  of good supermarkets are  all over the place as well as big malls offering nearly anything you might want to buy.
Winters are chilly--snow and ice storms now and then--fall is long and beautiful; summers are HOT and humid of course, but spring is in almost full swing there--and it is glorious now, so there are compensations,.

Flying above the city in Springtime is like looking down at a lace mantilla because of all the blooming trees covering the landscape--redbuds,naked magnolias, and dogwoods, flowering pears and plums.  Large deciduous  trees and flowering shrubs  like azaleas and rhododendrons thrive in the area because of the long growing season. Things grow fast!  If you-all garden at all, you will love it just as long as you can keep the deer and rabbits  from eating  anything green they can get to.

I wish someone would tell us we were moving instead of us having to make the constant decision of what to do.  We are so incredibly torn about whether moving is the right thing to do or not for our family!

I have great friends that moved to Woodstock, GA from MA and they just love it down there.  They have a great home and their kids have been very happy.  Don't know if that area is in your consideration but I know they love it.

Good luck!
