Does anyone else have SBC Yahoo DSL?   If so, have you had any problems with it lately?   For the past few weeks I've been having fits with my 'puter, and had to call for tech support twice.  Each time it turned out to be a problem caused by SBC making some kind of changes or upgrades, but when I mention to the tech that my service stinks, is slower than my old dial up and skips and jerks, they tell me that it's because my memory is too low, and I need to get rid of some unnecessary programs.  Well, I've streamlined as much as I can, no change in performance, and according to that pie graph thingy, I have more than 80% of my space free.  But if I go to the system manager performance tab, I only have 20% free.  What's up with this?  I don't have anything different on my computer than I did a month ago, but all of a sudden everything is bad.

I can not speak for SBC DSL, but I had Earthlink running on Covad for about 3 years.  It seemed that every January the service would get terrible.  Things would slow down to almost dial up speeds, sometimes slower.  It seemed to happen as they added more customers and the over-subscription numbers would climb sky high.  Once they added more lines back in the central offices, things would get better.  But for at lease a month or so it sucked big time.  I have since gone to Road Runner Cable.  I will have to see how it works for a year or so before I make another change.

Have you run Degrag disk on your puter lately?  If you use it a lot, files can become strewn across the drive which can slow it down.  Go to Programs-accessories-system tools-degrag disk.

I have ask, are you using the SBC software that makes your DSL connection or do you have a router?

If you are using the software, there is your problem.

Please let me know if you are using their program and I can explain the solution.
