Reminder to always know where your children are

So many of these things are in the news this time of year and this is just a wake-up call.

My kids are no toddlers but I do not back any of our cars if I don't see them in front of the car if they are outside the house.

The best thing is to have one of the reverse sensor thingies installed. I found a kit for the windstar and will hopefully afford to buy it and install it. I see nothing behind me when I am backing out of the driveway and there are a lot of small children where we live. I always check the back of the car before getting in, but it only takes the little monster a few seconds to get in where they should not be.

Have those reverse sensors installed guys/gals. We had it in the 2001 Windstar and loved it ! It caught the smallest obstacle behind the car.

We have one on our Expedition, but we still leave nothing to chance.  If one of us is moving a car--forward or backward--our 3 y/o is either in the car with us or the other parent holds him by the hand.  Children are too impulsive and move too quickly for even the reverse sensors.  The consequences are just not worth it!

I have the back up sensor on my Explorer and I had it on my 1999 Windstar.  I love having it.  DH was given an older add-on kit and installed it on his truck.  The only thing we don't like about the one on the truck is that if the obstacle behind the truck is moved it still keeps beeping until you take the truck out of reverse.  On my vehicle the beeping stops or slows down when the object is moved away.

Yes I really like the sensor.

Wow..these stories just gave me a sick feeling...I can't imagine the pain of losing a child and I really can't imagine what it would be like to run over your own child...or anyone else's for that matter...    I don't have to worry anymore about the possiblity of not seeing my own child (he's 6'5")....but I'm always shocked at the age of the childen I see in our townhouse neighborhood running and playing alone in the street! Some of these kids are no more than 2 1/2 or 3 and they are outside, in the street, with no supervision.   It just makes me sick.   We have a big truck and DH is always having me look behind him for the kids... It's really scary.

I backup a lot when I am trucking, and I am always very uneasy, even at 2 in the morning ....... It is a weird feeling that there might be something behind me and I will never know until it is too late. A drunk adult is a very real possibility at that time of the morning :(
