Our local  CBS Atlanta news channel just reported that many of our  "wonderful congresspeople" are RIGHT NOW attempting to  pass a tax on  Internet Access!  (Apparently some states already tax this.)

Pres Bush says he is not for  it, but Lamar Alexander (R. of Tn) sees dollar signs already and he is gung-ho for it as are a bunch of others.

Our telephone tax was to have died long ago, it is still here and they tax and "fee" telephone and long distance access to death, adding more all the time.   My God, next thing you know we'll be like England and have to pay a tax to breathe the air.

There have been so many uban legends about this kind of thing (mostly having to do with the post office wanting to charge for email) that I only listen if there is a bill number and I can verify the bill on the congressional web site: http://www.access.gpo.gov/congress/

Harvey, thank you SO MUCH  :W for sending that link. Using Tom's link, I found a bill that looked like the right one but wasnt sure from the description the scaremongers on the local news used.

But  your link made it clear what is actually going on with the bill.  Sounds like the ban on internet taxes may have a tough time being extended since they have so many "issues" they still cannot agree upon.  Well, we'll see.

But I tend to be skeptical that congress would miss the chance to tax something else! :banghead:  :swear:
