Just got back from the Indiana Dunes National Campground in Beverly Shores. We were the only one there had the entire campground to ourselfs. I had five boys with me and they were kind of loud so it was nice. Took the boys to school this morning have to go back and take down camp this afternoon. This is the second time this year we had a campground to ourselfs. When we went to Pa it got down to 12 degrees so I know why we were alone on that trip. I like to camp in the spring. I had a hard time picking a site too many to pick from.

Hope you had nice weather; I know north Kokomo got hit with a small tornado at the beginning of the week,

Sounds like a great time.  We've had nothing but rain all week down here.

DW and I camp during the week most of the time.  We also do a lot of our camping during the late fall and winter months here in Texas.  Even though we often have very nice weather (temp range of 35-70 degs), a good percentage of the time we have our local SP's to ourselves.  Very much enjoy the solitude and quite.

That sounds awesome!! I don't think we've ever had a campground to ourselves! Now the cabins we have to backpack into are a different story....but never a campground.  That would be wonderful.

What a rare and wonderful experience that must have been for all of you!  Sounds like you were wise enough to realize what a privilege it is to have such a beautiful place to yourselves--something most of us never have a chance to exxperience.

Many years ago, a bunch of college friends went and slept out on the dunes--very early September.  It was wonderful and still warm enough to swim. We ate our scrambled eggs garnished with sand but had a super time.

Then that winter several of us went tobogganing on the dunes--lemme tell you frozen sand   :frosty:is hard as granite when you fly through the air and land on it going 40 MPH downhill  :yikes:   (The girl in front of me let go :swear: and that was the last any of us saw of the toboggan  until we dragged our wounded bodies to the bottom of the hill to retrieve it.)

We have camped a few times when we had the cg to ourselves, except maybe one or two others. It was OK...pretty quiet, which is good. However, Holly and I are people-watchers, :eyecrazy:  and we like taking evening walks to look at the different rigs, so we sorta like it if the cg is busy.

A couple of years ago we camped at a very popular state park.  The first night we were the only people in the campground.  The next day one couple camped, but they were on the other side of the campground from us. :)

I took my family to Rockville Indiana to Racoon SRA 2 weeks ago and we too were all alone. Had a great "chilly" time but still roamed free and did some great shore fishing. Even the guard shacks were empty on the weekdays!!

hmmm...wonder if there is any relationship to who likes it quiet and who prefers it busy to the size of the city you live and work in?  The pace of life here in the DC area is so hectic and crowded everywhere you go that we just can't wait to get alone in the woods!  LOL

Interesting observation, but I doubt it. I work in a 550 bed hospital in Metropolitan Nashville.
