I am glad that it worked out for you.  That sounds like the solution to your problem.  Now, can you fix mine?  I think that I will just go ahead and get a campout and be done with it.  This Jayco awning is just too much of a PITA, as thldoc and I rolled it up in the rain yesterday. It really convinced me again, that I really don't like that awning.  It was so good to see you again.  Camp with us more often.  Again, glad that your awning is now almost perfect:theking:

It sounds like you made a good choice.  I have not had the problems with the awning that came with the popup.  It didn't have ropes with it but I can imagine that it did at one time.  I just use some tenting anchor stakes in the bottom hooks of the awning poles.  That eliminates any need for ropes and the anchor stakes are driven flush with the ground so there is nothing to trip or fall over.  I learned early on to anchor the awning poles after it blew up onto the top of the popup...and it was a good thing the air conditioner was not running as it might have suffocated from lack of air with all that awning on top. :yikes:

I agree that the Carefree awning is a definate improvement over the stock awnings that come with most campers. However, the instructions leave a lot to desire.:eyecrazy: :confused:

 
I must have spent half an hour with all the parts spread out, trying to figure out which pole went where, which way the awning faced, etc. All the instructions seemed to discuss is the mounting to the trailer.:banghead:
 
Eventually, we got it assembled and on the rig, and it works great. No more puddles of water to bump of the awning, no ropes for the dog to get tangled in, or tripped over by the kids...:!

My Baja is so high it's hard to setup awning.

I have an A&E Catalina 2500 box awning. It rolls up like a spring-loaded window shade and stores in an aluminum box mounted to the side of the roof.

The nice thing about it is you can open or close it with the camper setup.

The bad thing about it is it sometimes requires a temper tantrum to get back in that aluminum box mounted on the side of the roof   .

My youngest could help you, Dave.  She's real good at temper tantrums!  LOL

I rarely use my awning ~ it's a two-person job and a royal PITA to set up.

well, my TrailManor awning is a  really strange one although it is nice.  It is in some kind of thing that looks like a long metal box--fastened to the side of the trailer of course.   And you take a  very long handle-thingy and  hook the end of  it over a loop on the end of the box and then you  crank the handle  and the awning comes out from the box as you crank and there are bars stored in it that swing out to support it on the ground or in brackets against the trailer at an angle.

 It just takes a couple minutes, and then of course you reverse the procedure to close it.  Because that  stick-thing you crank is so long you can easily open the awning  after the trailer is up--in fact, you have to!

 It is from some Italian company called Fiamma.  I admit it is easy to open and close with that long stick thing you crank, but (although they offer a hideously expensive AAR for it)  I keep loooking at it and for the life of me cant see any way or place to fasten  even so much as a screen room much less a heavy AAR.  You-all who have AAR's or screenrooms  you can use with your awning  are lucky and I really envy you..

I think BearBait  is very clever to combine two sets of awnings &  frames to meet the different circumstances and needs  of his camping trips.  I guess this is what we would call  "thinking outside the box"

I've often wondered if there was a way we could change the stoopid awning that came with our camper for one like BB has.  Now that he's done it, I know that it can be, and would love to see pics of his mod too.
