Has anyone had any experience with the Saco River Camping Area in N. Conway, NH?  We are thinking about planing a trip there this season but did not know how nice (or not nice) the place is.  Restroom cleanliness, site conditions, etc.  We are used to KOA's which tend to be on the clean side.  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

 Hi Broms,
I took a look at that campground while we were camping in the area. I found the campground to be too open and not enough wooded sites (that's important to us). There are some sites on the river that are nice but in my opinion they kind of jam everybody in there. It's also in a busy area off the main drag in N. Conway right off the road. I didn't get a chance to check the restrooms.
If you would like a sugestion about a campground in that general area go to the next town from N. Conway in Glen. The name of the camground is Green Meadow it's next to Storyland. It's a nice wooded camping area with nice sites and clean restrooms. It fills up quickly though. Before the summer.

Hi Hargus,

Thanks for the reply.  I was thinking that SRCC might be a little close to the road.  Green Meadow sounds nice and the kids love Story Land so I think we will look into it.  We have been primarily sticking with KOA's (Littleton, NH, Saco and Freeport, ME) so we are being cautious about all others with respect to restrooms, etc.  Where do you usually camp?  (seeing as you are from the same area)  I think we need to branch out a little!

Chris,
Yes we're big Storyland fans also. You know you can go into Storyland the afternoon before and then all of the next day. It's a little pricey but I think it's worth it. A nice clean park.
I think Green Meadow is a nice campground. Not many activities or camp store but it has a nice playground and pool and clean restrooms. The main restroom with the showers is always kept clean. There are others w/o showers in the campground that are new and some that are older  they are kept in good shape but it depends on the amount of campers as you may know. They have some nice pu sites and very family oriented.
There is another campground close by also called Glen Ellis. We almost booked it when we couldn't get Green Meadow. It's on the river but some of the sites are kind of uneven some are okay.
One of the trips we're going to take this summer is the Eastern Pop-Up Rally in Bath, NY. You may have seen some posts on this forum.
A local campground we use a lot is Exeter Elms Family Campground. (ExeterElms.com) Just about an hour out of the city. It's wooded with nice pu sites and clean restrooms. It has activities, pool and campstore. It's on a river you can rent canoes or kayaks. They have some great sites on the river but not if you have kids. They have a section away from the water that's nice also.
The campground is located near exit 1 on 95 just before the toll booth. Do you live in Boston or close by.
Happy camping. :!  :!

Hey Mike,
We have done the afternoon - next day thing with Storyland.  It is a fun place and the kids love it.  The two CG's near there both sound nice.  I think I have passed the Exeter Elms CG.  I am a Sales Rep. and I cover Maine, New Hampshire and the Northshore of MA so I get to check out a lot of places before we book.  We are 15 Min. north of the city in Lynn.  The other nice part is we are on the Peabody/Lynnfield side and are less than 1 mile from 128/95 and Route 1.  How about you?

We are booked at the Freeport (Maine) KOA on May 12-13 for the free camping night.  We are going with my wife's brother (and his family).  They just purchased a new to them 19' TT.  I tried to talk them into a PUP by they would not budge.  It will be interesting as they have never camped before.  We are also going to book at the Bar Harbor KOA over Labor Day weekend (an annual event).  That place is awesome, we had a site about 30 steps from the ocean and the CG was noice and clean.  We will also probably hit our regular spots (Littleton, NH KOA, Saco KOA, etc.)  We are trying to branch out and discover other spots (hence this thread).  Have you ever stayed at Normandy Farms CG?  My wifes cousins have camped there and they think it is great.  Maybe we will give that a try as well.

Chris,
Exeter Elms CG is practically in your back yard. We live in Dorchester on the southern end near Quincy and Milton. I've been to Normandy Farms to check it out, but not stayed there. Although I know people that have camped there. It's kind of close to where I work in Hyde Park. The campground is all right but I would definately consider it a "RV park" that's what it is geared for the high end RV's. They have all the bell and whistles there. Fancy pools, childrens activity room, big lodge/office/store  and more. A big place. But you pay for it. The last I checked it was about $50.00-$60.00 dollars a night for a w/e site. :yikes:  Too rich for me. I don't want to pay that much to be put in a glorified parking lot next to a $200,000 rv. But that's only my opinion.
If you want to camp close to home check out Exeter Elm's. It's a nice Mom and Pop CG that's well taken care of. We'll most likely head up in mid June before we go to the Rally in NY in July.
