Our day started (6 am)  with Annie, our 1 year old pound-hound, getting stung by a bee and going into anaphylactic shock!  Within 5 minutes, she was limp and lifeless and had lost both bladder and bowel control.  Talk about scary.

After a useless call to our local emergency vet place, we took her to our vet and met one of the vet techs in the parking lot.  To make a long story short, she got a mega dose shot of Benedryl and slept the day away.

I never knew that dogs could be allergic to bees and like people, can become very sick very quickly.  We now have liquid Benedryl both in the house and camper. We talked about an epi-pen but now knowing 100 percent what bit her, the vet advised against the pen at this time.

Just wanted to let all of you dog owners know,

Tena,

Great information - thanks for sharing!

As I talk about on my Camping With Your Dog Web Page a great idea is to carry a Doggie first aid kit.

The best information I found was on a page titled "What to Put in Your Dog's First Aid Kit which is on //www.golden-retriever.com

I just looked and Benadryl is on their list.  I never knew why  , now I do.

Thnaks again

Thanks for the information.  I have benadryl in the house, but not the liquid.  I will have to get some. :)

Oooooooo, Tena,  I am so grateful to you for this post!  Our dog is very playful and curious and I have often seen him leap into the air in pursuit of a bee or moth or butterfyl   If he happened to "swallow" a bee, yellowjacket, or wasp (we live in the country and have lots of them around here) it could be a disaster.   We have liquid benedryl but the bottle is getting low--I'm off to the store tomorrow to get a fresh bottle.  And I will make sure Billy and our kids know about this.  (Forwarding your post to them.)   I couldnt stand the guilt if our carelessness caused the loss of our dear furry  companion.

Now where's that Kissy Face when I need one?!

Thank you Tena and Tim for the helpful info.
