Camping at Highland was fun and entertaining. We had beautiful
weather even though it got quite cold friday night. Just had a spot
of rain on sunday morning, nothing much to worry about. The
potty/shower tent was a big hit. Derek took a cool shower in it and
worked just fine. The water didn't get all that warm with the solar
shower because of the cool temperatures I'm sure.

Now on friday night it was just Deb, Derek and myself that stayed at
the camp. We all wanted to have those s'mores so Derek went and got
all the fixins. We didn't use the screen tent this trip so we just
put the picnic table under the awning. He got 3 marshmellows out of
a brand new bag and put them on the forks. He then set the
marshmellows on the table. Got then toasted all nice and golden
brown and then got up from the chair to get the choco bars. When he
turned around he just started screaming; "HE GOT MY MARSHMELLOWS, HE
GOT MY MARSHMELLOWS!!!!!!!!" Well sitting on the table with a bag
of marshmellows in its mouth was a raccoon. The raccon took off
under the PU with the marshmellows in mouth, bag and all, leaving a
trail of fallen mellows into the woods. Derek took off around the
camper screaming and yelling at the critter. When he got to the
other side he had lost the raccoon but found the mellow trail. He
picked up the mellows and started to throw them in the woods
yelling; "IF YOUR GOING TO TAKE THEM, THEN YOU MIGHT AS WELL TAKE
THEM ALL!!!!!" He then came back in a great huff, very upset that
the smores were not going to be made that night.

It was so funny watching Derek go after the raccoon that my Deb and
I were almost rolling on the ground we were laughing so hard. So we
had a very entertaining trip this time out. OH yeah, I did pick up
another bag of the mellows and we did have another visit from the
raccoon the next night. But Derek kept the marshmellows sitting
there right on his lap. Guess he thought that "Bubba Coon," (his
name for it) had enough sweets for the weekend.

Oh my gosh....this is hilarious! I laughed so hard. Poor Dereck must have been so angry at that racoon!  Too funny...

I "cheat" when I use the solar shower bags. First of all, I usually want to shower in the mornings and that's before the sun has time to warm the water. Second, there are usually two or three of us taking turns using the shower so it would take too long to wait for the water to get hot again. So I just fill the bag with water that's already the right temperature. Since the Utah has a hot water heater, I just use the outside shower to fill up the shower bag. When we were tent camping, we'd heat water on the camp stove and use it to fill the bag. That way you can have a nice hot shower even on a cloudy day!

Why that sneaky little raccoon!  Can raccoons get tummy aches from overindulging in marshmallows!!!  Would serve it right!!!!!!!

My first trip (in the Jayco) without Raymond was to Deam Lake in Borden IN.

My mother gave me some pancake mix and instant oatmeal in sealed packages. In the middle of the night, I heard sounds...it was racoons tearing open the goodies.

Lesson learned:when it comes to critters even sealed packages may not be enough.

Don't get marshmellows too near alligators, back in the 70's one of the nature parks in Florida had them to sell to throw into the gators as treats. Mom and Dad said it was funny to see those big creatures almost fighting over a little bit of fluff.
