Quote from: beacherJust think!!  You might eventually get to drive the cool go-cart in the parade!;)

I was offered to be a Sudan Temple dude.  The Head dude asked me to join, but I told him I didn't like those funny little hats.  He promptly told me those little hats were called a fez and that they weren't funny they were historical.  I asked if I would get one of the little cars, but he said only if I bought one, and if I drove it I would be required to wear the little hat in the parades.  I declined.

I used to be a moose, but have lost a lot of weight. Now I'm in the Eagles, have never made a meeting, never volunteered, and go to our local club maybe twice a year for a dinner or something, but pay dues every year. I stay enrolled because we have had a nice time in different Eagles clubs around the country, most are real friendly. One is near our favorite campground, and we visit it a couple times per year. I don't feel like I'm gaming anyone, they are always asking for more members and we have signed up several neighbors who do like us. If someone complained to us about not being more active, we would just leave..............shredder

My Mom & Dad were Moose members and Sal and I were at one time, but got discouraged because you couldn't get the "old folks" to do anything different.  Our local chapter closed and the closest one was too far away.  I was the Treasurer of the "Polka Boosters Club" here in Sacramento for several years, but also got tired of the same people running the show all the time with never a change in minds or methods.  That club has also folded. My Dad is still a member of the Moose, I think, and he goes to the Elks Lodge down the street from where he lives.   Even though my Dad just turned 90 on 6/18, he is still active and still goes to Polka dances.   I hope I can be that active when I'm that age.

The following is not exaclty an "Organization" but during my late teens and twenties I belonged to a Round Dance Exhibition group called the "Silhouettes".   For those of you who are not familiar with the term "round dance", this is ballroom type dancing that is done between the square dance tips/sessions.   Our group was young adults that performed for Natrional Square Dance Conventions.  We always had, at least, 10 couples on the floor.  Our instructor coreographed (sp?) our dance and our exhibitions usually lasted 10-15 minutes.  We performed in front of thousands of people.   The first big exhibition I was in was at the Seattle Worlds Fair in 1969...I know, that was a LOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGG time ago!

It's kind of neat to post this as we just had a reunion and I got to see old friends that I had not seen in almost 20 years!

I was born in 1968.  There are alot less clubs, orders, etc. now days.  People want to be individuals.  No one is willing to subvert their own wants to anyone else's.  Not even for a good cause.  Same problem for churches etc.  I was the same way until I grew up.  Somewhere around 30ish.  I believe the time for clubs and civic organizations is coming around again.  Just like camping and everything else.  It comes in and out of fashion.
