Any recommendations on a campground in this area?
Thanks!

I went to DC to see the memorials and monuments. That being said I didn't need a CG with a lot of amenities so we stayed at Greenbelt National Park. It is on the outer loop around DC and a hike or real short drive to the METRO to take into the Mall area.

Greenbelt NP has no hookups but does have showers and bathrooms. It is very quiet for the location and we frequently saw deer in the CG.

If you don't mind driving a little bit is the KOA in Harpers Ferry Wva. it's a short drive from DC about 45-60 mins. the surroundings are GREAT, you also have Hapers Ferry NP 5 mins away, Charlestown 10 mins. and a big Flea Market on Sat and Sunday agian 5-10 mins. from camp.  The camprounds are Neat, Clean, Helpful staff, we go there atleast once each season.  I think they even have a web site check through the koa official site.

Been to both Harper's Ferry KOA and Greenbelt, liked Greenbelt, in the Spring or fall (was there for most of Thanksgiving week). KOA was OK, sites were level, cannot say that for the section of Greenbelt that I was in.  There are a lot of Deer, saw a red Fox also.
There is a commercial Campground (Cherry Hill Park I think) at the North edge of the beltway, but it sits right on I 95 so the traffic noise can be bad.
If you are military/DOD, there are family camps at Ft. Meade and a Naval Rec area on the Patuxtent River. I think that Andrews also has a camp. But they told me that it can take 15 minutes to a couple of hours (I guess depending on how much "stuff" is in the camper) for them to search the camper and tow vehicle. As much as I ahve packed in, well I would figure on the couple of hours, that was why I chose Greenbelt.
I think that there is also a State Park with Camping outside of Waldorf MD.

Having lived in DC while working in DC I was asked this a lot.

Check out my Camping in the Washington DC Area Web Page

If you want to be close in and don't mind not having hookups Greenbelt can't be beat.  If you want hookups check out some of the other campgrounds I have listed.
