Hi to all down there.DW and I live in the Santa Cruz area.We have relatives who live in Irvine and Lake Forest. When we visit we usually stay in motels, but would love to camp nearby in our Chalet trailer.A couple of years ago we tried camping at O'Neil Park during one of our visits. The weather, and the setting were very nice, but our park experience was a disaster.Filthy restrooms, not well cleaned during our 4-5 day stay.Punk teens and young adults were drinking and partying all night long.It seemed that street people were sneaking in to use the campground showers quite often. The park staff didn't seem to be aware of these problems,or, possibly, did not care. Our questions-What is the park like now ? Has it improved ? Would you recommend it to family and friends ?

We have camped here quite a few times and have had the same experience that you had. We vowed never to return. It seems like a lot of the people there are homeless. Every time we have camped there there has been a problem. I don't think that anything has changed. I personally will never camp there again. Unfortunately, there are not a lot of options except for state parks. There is a private park (which used to be an old regional park) called Canyon RV Park and it is nice a clean. It is in Anaheim Hills right next to the 91 fwy and the 241 toll rd which leads into Irvine and Lake Forest. We have stayed there twice and both times enjoyed our stay. You can check out the park at www.canyonrvpark.com

I agreee with Jacqui and Dee.

I was a serious mountain biker before we adopted my son almost 4 years ago and I used to frequently ride many of the trails in O'Neill, since it's only about 5 minutes from our home. IThere were always some people there who were quite a bit "left of center" if you know what I mean. I wouldn't camp there if you paid me.

We live right off the 241 tollroad in Foothill Ranch (annexed a couple of years ago by Lake Forest) and it will only take you about 15-20 minutes to get to your relatives' home from Canyon RV Park using the 241.

Let us know when you're in town and maybe we can meet you for lunch or dinner. :)

Thanks for your responses.Usually our trips south are quite rushed (sandwiched between work-and a lot of kin to see),but we would really like to meet you folks associated with the SC Campers during our next extended stay. We'll post,or email when such a trip becomes likely.Too bad about O'Neill-maybe it's budget related.
