Acts 2:38 girl

Our oldest son was just diagnosed with this yesterday, after some blood work.  This is really bizarre, because I've never even seen a tick on him.  I check them a lot too.  Almost every family I know in this part of CT has somebody in thier family who has it, so I've been checking them often.  But last Friday he started with headaches - a constant one that would be mild to severe (him crying d/t pain) and extreem fatigue.  He's nine and he never takes naps, but he's taken a daily one this past week. I thought it must be a virus, because he also has a high fever and DD just got over something with a high fever also - so I just tied them together.  By Monday his fever seemed better and I brought him to the Chiropractor ( been doing it to treat his occasional headaches since he was in a car accident a few years ago).  It seemed to help a little, so we felt comfortable enough to go to the Rally, but they came back there.  By the time Thursday came I made him an appointment for that evening, and they did a complete physical.  Then the Dr. did blood work and called yesterday with then news.  I'm really glad we found out what it was, because being the protective and "jumping-to-conclusion" type Mommy I am, I was thinking, " What if it's a blood clot or a brain tumor"    :screwy:  Man, I hate it when I do that!  I get myself all worked up and almost to tears, before I pull it together and say something like, " Lets get the blood work back before we freak out, first!"   That is the bad part of having an over-active imagination!!  At least he has started his medicine - does anybody know how long the chewable type takes before it starts to take affect on his symptoms?

Glad he's on meds... prayers for you guys.

I'm the same way, I'd rather expect the worst, then I feel so much better is it's something minor.  Also, glad when you here.. here's the meds... I'm always afraid it'll be something that can't be treated.

Wow, we saw him on Tuesday at the rally and now you find out that he has Lyme disease.  I am glad you have him on meds and I hope he has a full recovery. :)

Hope the little guy is feeling better soon!  I've been doing a lot of research on Lyme, and a couple of things I learned are that's it's almost entirely nonexistent in Oklahoma but is found all over the east coast and the northern west coast (it's important to use tick protection in all areas, but especially in those areas) and be SURE to keep your kids/yourself/your pets on the antibiotics for the entire length of time, sometimes as much as 3 - 4 weeks or it can come back with a vengeance.  Since you caught it early, just be sure to keep up with the antibiotics, and he should make a complete recovery.

Keeping you guys in my prayers as well!

My dad had Lyme disease and made a full recovery. Just make sure he takes all his antibiotics.

ticks can be so tiny you might miss them for a small freckle or spot.  Like you we check the kids all the time, but you just never know.  I'm sorry that he felt so sick, glad they caught in time before it affected his joints.  He should be feeling better soon with the antibiotic.  His lyme titer should be redone after he's been off the antibiotics I think its about 2 weeks after, you'll have to check with your pedi first.
