I just discovered, by reading in this Forum, that the little silver thing on my interior light was a 12 volt connection.  The only thing I have found to support this 1/4 inch connection is the fan that is in the PU Times Store.  How and what else can I connect there?

I love this forum.  Forgot to renew my membership, but I am back now.

I modified the adaptor for my air matress pump with a male 1/4" phono jack. I cut the alligator clips off and installed the phono plug in there place. Now all I have to do to pump up my matresses is connect the cigarette lighter plug on the pump into the modified adaptor. It would also be nice to have a 12 volt lighter outlet in the PU but I can't decide where to put it or how to mount it.

Anything 12 volt drawing less than 8 amps will work fine in that receptical. You can convert most any 12 volt connections over to the 1/4 plug from Radio Shack. Or else make up a cigarette to 1/4 jack adapter.

I have made a couple of adapters for the 1/4" plugs Two of the adapters use the 1/4" male and the other end is the cigarette plug. I also made an extension cord (using zip cord) with a male and female 1/4" plug. This works great for using a Fantastic Fan.

Thank you so much.  I am printing your replies and taking them to my Radio Shack guy.  I tried to explain this to him and he said he had never heard of such a thing.
Thanks again!

I have made several of them.

I bought a dome light at wal-mart.  It included a switch so it can be turned on and off.  I wired the 1/4 plug onto about 10 feet of wire.  I am able to plug in to the 1/4 recepticle and have a  light to read by while I am on the bunk end.  I can turn it off and go to sleep without having to get out of bed.

The "sales people" at Radio Shack don't know a whole lot about radio anymore.
Check Tim's link and compare the pictures to what you find in the store....if they still carry parts.

RS still has the parts. I bought some the other day and I use the same jacks on my model railroad. All of the jacks are in a metal case with other dodads.
