The storage trunk on our Coleman Utah CP leaks.  It appears to leak on the side access door because it doesn't have a tight seal. Any suggestions? Thanks

Sounds like you need to replace the seal. It's just a stick on gasket type of thing, but you gotta clean the old one off before putting this on.

My front storage trunk leaked from the top gasket, right in the middle in the rear where the two ends met. I wound up using some black silicon RTV to seal the two ends together...

Thanks for your suggestion.  May be easier to correct than I thought.

Make sure that is where it is, our's would leak down from the roof.  Another possibility is leaking from the water heater connections.

Jim, does your door have the two latch points.... the lock on one side and the latch on the other? I've found that if both of these aren't engaged, the door on my camper will leak too. Also look at the gasket and make sure it hasn't gotten a gap in it where the two ends come together.

Mine was leaking and I found that the gasket was not making a good seal because the stiffener on the inside of the lid was not attached to the lid.  I pop riveted the stiffener to the lid where it was loose so that it would hold the lid straight and solved the problem.

USNRET, I had the same problem with my 01' Niagara. Water was leaking into the storage trunk around the access door, especially when travelling. Last summer we went through a very heavy and long rainstorm and water soaked every thing close to the door, even the floor back in the camper. Over time the edges of the trunks floor, which is made of 5/8" OSB board, had swelled up and caused the side panel and door to warp which would not let the door gasket seal properly, thus causing the water leak. I checked with the dealer and it was covered under warranty. Coleman sent me a whole new storage trunk, complete with running lites and all attachments. I had to pay the shipping which was $150.00...The dealer wanted about 500.00 to install it, so I did it myself..It was a fairly easy job as I was then remodeling the trailer and had already stripped the interior, which made it very easy to get to the inside trunk fastenings.

Before installing the new trunk I removed the floor and gave it three coats of urethane varnish which should keep it from swelling up again,I hope.....Look and see if the bottom edges of the trunks side panels are pooched out and check them for warp. If so,this is probably your problem and you can contact your dealer to see if it is still under warranty....Good Luck.....

Jim,

What year is your Utah CP.... I have the 2005 (Plastic ToolBox) and it looks to be dry so far, but hey this is California, we get 3 inches of rain a year!!!

If you have two latches on your box door you need to keep the one latched and the other locked.  Seems odd I know.  I would think you wouldn't need to keep it locked but I have heard otherwise.  You don't have to keep your car door locked in order for it to remain sealed.

Another design flaw.  Just think, we can send men to the moon but Fleetwood can't design a door that doesn't leak unless it is locked.

I have friends who just had there box replaced on their 2003 Bayside because it leaked. The owners manual probably does not state you must have both latches engaged in order to prevent leaking.

We tightened up the lock and it seems to be fine.

Going to pick-up the PU from storage today, it's been raining all week here, so I'm going to make sure the box sealed.... I'll let you know....

:(
Well the good news is the storage box did not leak, But I set the PU up and later in the day it was raining pretty good. Everything was dry but then I noticed a small leak between the slide-out and the refridge cabnet. :yikes:

It seem the slide-out has a plastic piece about 4inches wide and about an 1/8" inch thick that goes down both side of the slide out. The water was running down from the roof and sides and would hit this little plactic and the water would travel down the plastic and drip into the PU.

There is a large rubber like seal that presses against the slideout but it seems it not perfect, since the little 4 inch plastic piece just allows a tiny hole for the water to go down.... It was only leaking on the one side, maybe best to have a slight difference in the hight of the pop-up when leveling so the water does not travel down the plastic.... Or I could make a mod to drape a small piece of plastic over that area.... Anyone els had this problem?

Thanks in advance!!
