Well since the kids are back in school a friend who will be camping with us here over Labor day, and I took a road trip yesterday to check out this campground. It is really a good thing we did so that we would not be surprised when we arrived. This is a beautiful spot, Dave is right about that. The lakes are pristeen and the staff are very friendly. They are very dog friendly. BUT it is in the middle of nowhere, which I like, though my friend was concerned because her family likes to be going all the time visiting the sights around. Winchester is about 1/2 hour away and is a beautiful town with lots of history and quaintness and shops and restaurants as well. My family is happy going to a campground and staying in one spot enjoying the outdoors with no particular schedule or itinerary. My biggest concern here is if someone is looking for what I would ordinarily consider most PRIVATE campgrounds to have, new and upgraded facilities and paved or graded roads. This campground could use some updating to say the least. Perhaps they dont do this because they thrive on repeat campers going back five generations and dont want to spoil the rugged and rusticness that they offer. The bathrooms are very basic and might be clean, it is hard to tell because they are so run down. Everything seems to work and they do have some newer showers with premixed water(warm). I did not notice lights around the campground so be sure to take flashlights and lots of extra batteries because there are lots of ruts in the roads from washout as well as ATV use. It is not to be assumed that all of the sites are level and the electric sites are in a busier part of the campground but closer to the swimming lake. All of this being said I am looking forward to Labor Day to definitely "get away from it all" It was funny to see my friends face when we finally arrived at the Cove. This is by far the most primitive camping she will ever do I am sure. We all know that there are tradeoffs when we are looking for campgrounds and for my family, it is the setting and company we are with or meet that is the most important. We did see the lakefront cabin which sets out over the fishing lake across the lake from where we will be camping. It is a beautiful setting BUT I will take my popup anyday. They charge $75 per night for a dirty rundown Aframe that I could not imagine even walking barefoot in and I believe you still have to walk to the bathroom. Please email me if you have any questions. I will update you after the trip.      Sandy

I agree, the bathrooms are funky and your truck will be ready for a wash when you get home. It can get crazy sometimes too.
