What a nice day this has been! Blue skies, sunshine and nice warm temps. And a nice breeze, too. Just right for the pow wow. I spent the afternoon at the 43 annual GVAIL pow wow, and it was great! Besides seeing lots of friends and relatives, and watching the dancers in the circle, I managed to find time to eat some fry bread, and drink some sassafrass tea. mmmmmm, so good. There were quite a few traders there too, and spent some long moments examining their crafts. It was time to get some new sweetgrass, mine was almost gone, and as I sit here, I have that wonderful smell wafting up to me from the braids I bought, and my skin still carries the scent of sage from walking past the smudge bowls. In remembrance of 9/11 there were some special songs from the Drum to honor veterans and emergency personnel, just beautiful. My heart is so full right now.

Toni, so glad you had a beautiful day for the pow wow.  It is inspiring  to know of the Native American ceremonies held today in honor of our loss that day 3 years ago.  Funny--our threads mentioning this anniversary were started almost simultaneously--the old ESP at work again, eh?

speaking of native people, I am watching a beautiful program on the Aleutians on PBS right now--and it is tragic how the  Aleuts were treated by those who invaded the islands...not shocking anymore, though, given the way indigenous people have always been treated.
