With Gas On The Rise Will It Effect The Way You Camp?

OC Campers

Our camping plans will go unchanged.  Most of our vacations are with the popup.  It is stll a lot less than flying anywhere and paying for hotels.

Will camp less this year if gas goes to 3 dollars a gal. At this point in time I am only looking at two trips this year and both at 350 mile or more. Hopfully the cost will go down..

If we don't camp, we drive around so camping may save us money in the long run!  ;>

We will camp the same amount- every weekend from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend and some weekends before and after!
All of our trips are 250 miles or less from home. Many are within 50 miles. At 250 miles assuming 15 MPG it adds about $10.00 R/T to a trip at todays prices. $1.95 last summer, $2.25 today= 30 cents a gal @ 33.33 gallons. That is NOT enough to kep me home! Even IF it goes to $3.00 per gallon, that's $35.00 R/T- still not going to keep me home. Will just spend less in the area's I go and the local merchants will suffer.

It is and it isn't! Much of it is the initial shock, but compare the price of a gallon of gas to what we pay for a bottle of WATER! For a 20 oz bottle of water, I've paid anywhere from 99 cents to $1.75 (Ski Resort, naturally!) at the average of $1.37 that equals $8.77 a gallon! Glad my Jeep doesn't run on water!!!

We've been spoiled by inexpensive gas here in the US from the beginning. Europeans have been paying high prices forever. Of course much of that is government taxes, but they still have to pay it. Look at the taxes you pay in your state on a gallon of gas, if it's like most it is right up there!!

I certainly have no great love for the oil companies but we are buying a commodity that IS being depleted. They just can't go out and plow more fields and grow more gas plants. Now there would be an invention!!!

My biggest complaint is with the government, all parties! They talk the talk, but don't put any real incentives out there for sources of alternative energy. When the auto makers come up with something it's usually so under-powered that it struggles with a bag of groceries!

Oh well! (time to get off the soap box)

We are very lucky in Knoxville TN
So many lakes and mountains within 50 miles.
Like I tell my customers. If you have children few extra dollars on gas one weekend out of the month is millions of dollars worth of memories. Grap the Family Go Camping and Have Fun .
