Need help from everyone. I want to get a portable refrigerator/freezer
for my popup. I need to know if anybody has one and how you like it.
There are several different ones out there. Need one for AC/DC and
up to 22qt.. This would be a good PUT article for Dave to write on in one of the up coming issues.

Thanks and Happy Camping
Bill

Not exactly cheap or easy to find but they do make them. They run about the same price as an equivalent size 3 way fridge.

Hello Bill,

Since no one else has been able to give you any input, here is my limited knowledge to the topic for a fellow Georgian. Not much, but it may get you headed in the right direction.

I never got the urge to purchase one of these "bad-boys" due to the price, ($ 350.00 -  $  550.00 as I recall)  but PUT magazine runs an add for a company named  AGS Chescold. They are advertised as powered 3-way 12 VDC, 110 VAC, and LP Gas. ( Freezer / Refrigerator ). Two different models to choose from.

I would be surprised if you receive a response from any one on this board that actually purchased one of these, since there are many  cheaper options available.

  The information in the add:

AGS Chescold   PO Box # 432
  Loudonville, OH  44842

  FAX # (419)  938-7021
  TOLL FREE PH # (888)  222-8940.

There wasn't a web address in the add, but you may want to do a web search using the info.

I hope in some way this will be helpful to you.

   Keep yor kindlin' dry,

    Hoppy

I looked these up one time and IIRC they ran about $650 :yikes:

If you are referring to one of the Chill Mate types like you see in Wal-Mart then you are talking $70 or so.  Remember that those units will only cool to about 40 degrees below ambient air temp, so you won't be drinking frosty cold ones in 100 weather.  For those of us in more temperate climes they work well enough to keep your food from spoiling over a weekend.  Like all coolers part of the secret it to keep the thing closed!

While it only ran on AC we bought a compact refigerator from Home Depot for $100 and used to bring that along. We would transport it in the back of the TV and than plug it in once we got to the campground. We also got an inverter that we plugged into the car (12v) and then plugged the fridge into that. The problem was that if we turned on the car A/C then we would use too many amps so that the inverter would flip its circuit breaker.

It took a while to find the one that we got. I would go around and lift each of the ones we found to see which one I could easily lift in and out of the truck. We also measured to make sure that it would fit in the back.

Hi Diplomat,

I'm under the impression that Bill is looking for information in regards to a compact refrigerator / Freezer, as stated in his thread.

I'm cheap, so I went with the Coleman thermoelectric cooler / warmer  route also.

Works good, but it's definetly not a freezer.

I found the AGS ( Australian Global Services) website during a search, and they show two models in the fridge / freezer section.

  //WWW.aussieglobe.com

 Model #  F 400 sells for $ 552.00 USD.
 Model #  RC 1180 sells for $ 642.00 USD.

Too rich for my blood. Got to fold my hand on this.

 Keep your kindlin' dry,

  Hoppy
