Hello All,

I am moving to the Northern VA area,  not exactly sure where.  I am in the military so it is another move and now it is to the DC area.

We are trying to map out our camping for the summer and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

Thanks in advance,

BK

DC is going to be quite a shcik after KY.  The prices of homes is out of sight and traffic is the pits.  To be honest, I'm glad we were transferred to Atlanta.

Now, back to your question, check out my Camping in the Washington DC Area web page  for the close in stuff.

If you like nature, you have lots of National Forest and National Park camping a couple of hours west of DC.  Just check out an area map and you will see it lining I-81 along the VA/WV border.

Now if you like dry camping, ask & I can give you directions to our favorite spot out in the George Washington National Forest.

Wow!! Welcome to PUT! I currently live in the Northern VA area.. Tim is right....housing will be quite a shock..unless you are going to live on base. Will you be at Belvoir? I was at Ft. Campbell many years ago....my ex was Army which is what brought me to this area and I just stayed. It's an ok area to be in. There are tons of options for things to do. You're within just a few hours drive of the mountains, the beaches, or just the big city. There are many historical sites and places to visit, historical towns to shop in... Fredericksburg, Occoquan, Old Town Alexandria, Frederick, Maryland.... Besides the ideas on Tim's site (his is a wonderful site to just peruse when you have time too!!!) there is camping all over the place! Depends on what you're looking for. Quantico has a nice little campground for military only on Lunga Reservoir. Prince William Park has one of my favorite campgrounds, if you don't require hookups. Pohick Bay Park is just a hop, skip, and a jump from Fort Belvoir (maybe 2 miles) and has electric hookups, Aquia Pines (which Tim mentions) is South of Quantico a tad...not my favorite place, but some love it.  There is Burke Lake Park in Fairfax Station, Lake Fairfax in Reston, Shenandoah National Park is only about an hour and a half - two hours away. Mathews Arm and Big Meadows are the closest camping areas to the Northern VA side. This is only the beginning! :> LOTS of camping close to this area! Welcome to PUT and to Northern Virginia!

Send a note if you need info on the area!!!! We'd be happy to help!
