If I need to get an awning for my PU, what are the options beside a dealer provided awning? Are there awnings/screen rooms that are better than the ones you would get from Jayco, Fleetwood, etc.? Where can you buy them and are they difficult to install?

I am new to this board, and we are still looking for the PU. Hope to get something within the next couple of weeks.

Thanks,

Turn Key

Welcome aboard Eric and Beth!  Hope you can find what you need here.

Bag type awnings that come with PU's are OK if that's what your equiped with. If your going for a replacement, may I suggest the "SuperSport" model by Carefree by Colorado. Simular in design to the types used on TT's. "5th's" and MH's, they are a lot easier to use. They do cost a bit more but you get what you pay for. We have a Carefree on our "5th" and I find it much easier to use, thus I'm much more likely to use it on short trips. Takes less then 3 minutes to extend or roll up. Had always intended to replace the bag awning on our last PU with one of these but replaced the PU before it was needed.

Have a site:

Not sure but you may have to search a bit once you get to the site. Not hard to find the right ones for PU's.

Hope this helps and happy camping.

The Carefree add-a-room attaches to the Carefree Campout awning in about 5 minutes or less. The Carefree Campout awning and add-a-room are what Viking offers for their popups.

Turn Key and chasd60:

Thanks to both of you, I have now found a new web site with multiple accessories that I can spend my hard earned money on...how can I ever repay you.

The awning and screen room you suggested look perfect. Once we get the PU (and it will be soon), I will need to come back and see what recommendations there are for measuring the size I need.

Cheers,

You may want to try //www.carefreeofcolorado.com.  We have purchased a few items from this company and have been very happy with the quality. You may have to find a dealer near you that can order your items from Carefree for you.

Eric (Oregonn8v),

One thing you might want to think about for your awning. We have a Starcraft Hybred and my husband (Calstate 360) is always having to clean it because it doesn't have a cover that the awning rolls up into. Our PU had a bag that it zipped into and that made a difference. He is always cleaning the water and mildew off the Hybred awning. Something to think about...

I have never had that issue with my hybrid awning. Is he using the bleach and soap mix for cleaning the awning? It works great and is the prescribed method for my A & E awning.

I posted the method from their manual here

chasd60,

Sal uses the awning stuff you get from the PUT Store and likes that the best.  It works great and gets all the mildew and other stuff off.  The problem is not the cleaning, it's keeping the water from seeping inside.    My Dad had a 5'er that had a metal sleave that his rolled up into and he never had any water get inside the awning.
