My administrator's GS troop and another have the oceanside group site. I think I am going too...only be in loop 1, if any are available at 10:00 when the reservations open. I want my trailer!!! it has heat!!! And can have hot water IF I did not mess up the waterlines. Never got the antifreeze in, but did leave a heater on (Raymond shut off the breaker and we did not know for a week or more that the heater does not reset). So I have to see this weekend...

She invited me to bring my tent and camp, but she likes the trailer idea better, all of her GSs are high school age so she can sneak off and sit with me!

If my water lines are shot...Lee how much do you charge? I paid $200 last year at the dealers.

Wanted to add cabinet doors this weekend, but looks like I will be doing some ehavy duty reading of a requirments document for work (hey sacrifice the weekend and I have that much extra comp time for camping...gotta love those long weekends!!

Paula call the NPS reservation center or use their online reservation center and make a reservation for that weekend.  You might want to call Assateague Island and see if they will let you camp in the group site parking lot.

I finally got through to the site (kept timing me out though I was only waiting about 5 minutes, kept giving me a 20 minut idle message), I requested to be near the group area. Jeffrey says he wants to go. So I am better off a little ways away...I got my reservation!

Thanks for the advice.

I am glad you got your reservation.  Are you going to take him?:)

Yes and Robin is happy because her son wanted to go too, but the other leader said no. I told her that he could come and stay with us.

I have the two kayaks now (the nflatable that has never been out of the box and the new one I bought Saturday) and two life vests and 2 paddles, the girls will be envious of the boys :-()  :-()

What kind & brand of Kayak did you get?

I am back and what a weekend...

We were called into an emergency meeting on Friday at work...Mandatory OT until June 13th.

Left at noon, came home, hitched up.
I stopped at my favorite stop while camping...Super Walmart, this one was in Milford DE.

Had to get stuff for the sprouts, all Robin's girls bailed including her 2 daughters, but she was going to go anyway with the other troop.
I was glad I was apart as supper Sat night was supposed to be veggie burger tacos (yuck) so I picked up a filet/baked pot combo. Hot dogs. $30 wirth of poles for my $12 SHELTER (we used to call them dining flys if you are that old).

Got there and set completely up. I am talking both ends. Torqued the awning, and all. Then I waited and waited and waited...called on cell and they were on US 13 going to pick up US 50 at Salsbury )it was dark), I directed then to Harringotn, left at light, go to next light and there is a Superfresh, they knew and wanted Superfresh...
They had not done the grocery shopping.
They got their grocerys and were finally on 113, I called them again later an they were on US 50, almost there.
When I called again, they were in the park, and I stayed on the phone and literally directed them to the group campground that I had earlier signed for (it was paid for already).
I helped them set up 3 tents in the wind, in the dark...yuck.

Went abck to my site in the family section, took 2 Tylenol PMs and passed out.

Got up the next morning, fixed my spelt wheat waffles, and called Robin, she was still sleeping...so were the girls. I finished, cleaned up and walked over. Their stove would not work and the other 2 adults went to get a new one... I have 2 extra ones in my camper, Robin knew I had once extra.  But they bought one of those lid-less ones...

Then the other leader wanter her screen room set up, there was one minor problem...she left the poles at home...
I let them borrow my Greatland insta-set. It took longer to stake it out (wind was REALLY bad) than it did to set it up...they were impressed.

Then when I went back to my camper for lunch, Robin put a tarp over one end...I was really nervous as this thing is like a spider each leg connects to a center hub, but it withstood all the wind!!

Saturday afternoon I bundled back up as the wind was getting worse, brough everything in that could get wet as my awning was bouncing though it was strapped...moved the memory foam back to the u-shaped lounge dinnette and slept there Saturday night, one of the tents lost a pole and they took down the screened room after dark.

Boy was I glad I turtled up, it rained all night, not to mention the wind rocking the camper...not a good night and I forgot to take the tylenol pm...Poor girls and leaders in the tents had a worse night.
I got up this AM at 7:00 put away the plastic stuff that I store in the bathroom, and the grill stove and 20lb tank, hitched up and dumped the tank,,,yes I would rather use my mini potty room than the porta cans, they were yucky!!! And went to see if they needed anything. THey were all packed and eatting poptarts and bananas for breakfast in the car (double yuck). I stopped at Golden Coral in Dover and ate a breakfast buffet.

Came home and found the slobs had left everything for me. THey ate and even left the pans on the table...tripple yuck.  Anybody want to adopt me????

Paula come on over.  I am sorry you didn't have a good trip.  I hope you are feeling ok.  Did you get the email I forwarded to you?

SheBantam

Actually tracy, it was not a really bad trip, a lot of wind, some rain a lot of wind, did I mention a lot of wind?  I had already planned on eatting seperate and had bought enough for Robin if she wanted to join me.

I have never seen troop leaders so disorganized.  I told them that I would be happy to stop on Friday and buy their grocerys then they could write me a check when they got there, on my way down since I was going to anyway.  But NO thye were not sure what they were going to eat, except for the veggie burger tacos (Yuck again). they ended up NOT having them as the vegetarian in the troop had also bailed at the last minute.

You should have seen the "ginger bread" in the dutch oven.  They wanted me to pick up 10lb bag of charchol. I did, they used the whole 10lb bag to cook the cake...well burnt the cake...what is it 7 on the bottom and 10 on top or something similar.  I could not eat it anyway (wheat flour and I was not up to a migrane). The middle was sitll gooey.

Lesson learned...DO NOT go with Girl scouts...Go with Tracy and/or Beckie for a good time.

Beckie, let me know if you want to use my year car pass/card when you go with Tracy in June? I can send it to you or meet you some Saturday I am not working, in Lancaster.  It is good until the end of the year and has already paid for itself.  Tracy has one...

HersheyGirl

Paula,   thank you for your offer of the NP pass, but I already bought one earlier this year.

I wonder if those girl scout leaders took the girl scout leader camping class?  In Pa, you can not take the girls out without a camp trained leader.  I was the camp trained leader for Diana's troop.  In that class we learned to organize a camping trip, shop for food, start and maintain a campfire, cook in dutch ovens and wine box ovens, first aide, set up tents, etc, etc, etc.  I bet those leaders did not take that class or they would have been more prepared.  That is too bad for the girls, as this could have been a fairly good camping trip, but it probably turned some of the girls off of camping altogether. :(

Robin said it got worse after I left (went back to my camper) the girl's tent finally totally collapsed, so the 2 leaders put them in thier tent and pulled out another 2 man tent for them (Robin had her own 2 man tent and was not going to share) they put it up, and said that it was too hot for the cover.  Well about 3:00AM it started raining and they threw the cover over themselves and proceeded to get soaked. I did not know about any of this until today.

Robin is a trainer and could not believe what she was witnessing.  Rita has been camping for and with girl scouts for over 20 years, isthe assistant with thistroop and has a troop of 13 and 14 year olds herself.

Robin and my Chief administrator who also knows both women said that something was wrong, Rita is usually fit as a fiddle and runs a tight ship.
So I have not got a clue...

Actually the girls had a great time and it was the leaders who had all the problems...Part of the reason the girls ahd a godd time was that in Group2 and Group 4 there were boy scouts,,,they were in 3.

The ones in 2 about 4:00 completely packed up and left as the wind tore up their ez-up...and a couple of tents.
