This past weekend we camped at Heart Bar Camprground located about 30 miles up Hwy 38 from Redlands in the San Bernadino Mts. It's just a shade below 7000' and is all dry camping. Water is available and the have vault toilets (used to be called pit toilets.) The camp hosts are great and the keep everything tidy including the toilets. Each site has a table and fire ring. The sites are paved and usually spaced far apart. Sometimes fires or charcoal are not permitted so call to check. The weekend we were there, there were no restrictions and we could pick up downed wood. There are lots of Jeffrey pines which smell like vanilla. They have reserved sites (Reserveamerica.com) and an overflow area that is first come-first serve. The camp host said that if it's not a holiday weekend, you can usually get in. This is a seasonal campground and is usually closed October through April. Big Bear City is only about 1/2 hour away.

This is our second visit here and we'll definitly come back.

Thanks for the report.  We're always looking for SoCal campgrounds where we haven't been before.  We'll give it a try in the fall.

Has anyone heard the status of the campgrounds in the Barton Flats area. This week, there was a wildfire that was threatening this area.
