When hooking up to a septic system at a campgroung what prevents the odor from coming back up the hose and into the camper through the sink  :yikes: Thanks

I usually try and arrange the hose so that it is lower than the sewer pipe entry. That way, there is a line of water in the hose to block odors from coming in. Look under your sink. That's the reason for the "U", or dip in the pipe. Helps keep odors and critters from coming up.

That's the way I do it, and so far, no problems, even if I smell odors from the sewer pipe when I hook up.

Both sinks and showers in PU have a trap built into the drains. no need to form a second one with the tubing/hose as two traps in a line do cause a slow running drain.

Thanks. I've had pop-ups before, I just never bothered hooking up the water. The kids were young and I could envision water everywhere. I'm hoping at 11 & 14 it won't be a problem.

That may be true in the newer PU's, mike, but our camper doesn't have traps. Of course, our popup was made before water was invented.  :D

Even with a trap in the line I make sure some water will lie in the hose to block odors.  Of course we have only had sewer hookups 2 times.:)
