Probally been asked but let me do it again :eyecrazy: .  What it the best way or item to use to keep the sun off the bunk endsand keep them cooler.  That's half the battle it seems when it gets hot. :yikes:   Please let me know where you got it or how you made it.  I'm not the most handy but I try. :D

pop up gizmo makes solar covers.  Don't have them myself but I know I lot on the board have them.

try a search for Pop Up Gizmo's.

Others have used some type of solar blankets.

I'm sure you'll get more replays than this short one with ore information.

We have the Popup Gizmos and love them. Not only do they keep the bunkends clean, they lower the inside temp 10-15 degrees. They also insulate it when it's cooler and reduce or eliminate condensation.

They are the best.  We use them in the heat and the cold...even great in the rain.

You will find three basic answers to this question:

  • Reflectix
  • Space Blankets
  • Popupgizmos

From the Reflectix web site: "Reflectix

We have the popupgizmos and never camp without them.  At one point in time, Bob at Popupgizmos gave a 10% discount to PUT members.  I don't know if he is still doing this, but you could certainly ask.:)

The BEST way to keep the ends cool is to park the PU in the shade.  Barring that, I'd go to the covers made by PU Gizmos.  A sound investment if your going to stay in a PU.

We tried the Mylar "space emergency blankets" that you can purchased at Wal-Mart and such places.  They do a very good job of reflecting the heat and keeping the ends cool.  They are inexpensive and can be reused if not torn.  They can be difficult to install and keep attached if the wind gets up.  There has also been reports of these blankets leaving marks on the tenting material though we never had that issue.  Even though we are now in a "5th wheel", I still keep a couple of these blankets in my tool box.

Hope this helps and happy camping!

I'll add my support for the Popup Gizmo bunkend covers.  We've had ours a couple of years and they show no sign of wear.

Even when we park under a tree, we'll put on the bunk end covers.  They do a great job of keeping the bunk ends clean under those conditions.

I also give Pop Up Gizmo's solar covers a double thumbs up.:)

An added benefit of the Pop-Up Gizmo covers is that it keeps the bunks darker in the morning sun. For those of us who love to sleep in or take afternoon naps, that's a good thing.

We have an AC on our unit, but found with the covers we don't have to run it nearly as much as the covers keeps the cool air in better than the canvas alone. DH was very happy with the investment.  Plus, you can throw them in your washer, which came in handy when the altitude change during travel caused my full bottle of laundry detergent I brought to explode all inside the box of bunk end covers.:yikes:

We just got back after camping with the new reflectix covers I made, and they worked great. Not only did I cover the bunkends, but also the whole roof. We have a small window AC unit cut into the back of the camper, and even with the temperature reaching 100 this past weekend it stayed cool enough for the kids and myself to take a nap in the afternoon. I wouldn't say they look as nice as the solar covers from popupgizmos, but they worked great for an old popup like ours. I'll post some pics of what they look like when I get time, but just think reflectix, reflective aluminum duct tape and velcro.

We just bought a new camper, and having had the Popup Gizmos solar covers for our old camper we immediately ordered a new set.  They make an amazing difference in the bunkend temps.
