The plastic tube that provides a housing for the door spring broke on our Coleman Mesa. Has anyone ever replaced this? I'm thinking that I would grind off the rivet, replace the plastic tubing, and use a sheet metal screw instead of a rivet. That way, if it breaks again, it's a simple fix. Can anyone see any problems with this solution, or does anyone have a better suggestion?

Sounds good to me....Thats what I would do if I didn't have a pop rivet gun.........

You might want to consider just slicing a piece of tubing and slip over the spring. Add some "Super Glue" along the seam to seal it up. I would think removing the pop rivet and replacing with a screw would eventually strip the screw hole since it's under tension and very soft aluminum. Just another option.

I have a Mesa model also, and if the sleeve ever gave out, this would be the way I would probably go about it.

I'd replace the tubing with a piece of "split-loom" tubing that's used for wire dress-up in automotive applications.
It comes in different diameters , so you should be able to find something that'll work fine.
Hoppy's idea sounds good, too.

Good luck
