Just purchased a 2002 viking pu. Around the door the velcro is pulling apart, not the velcro itself, but the adhesive (looks like) holding the velcro itself. Is there a special type of adhesive used?

I contacted Viking directly when my 2001 did this. They said there was a period of time when the adhesive was bad and sent me entire replacements. They are plastic strips with velcro preattached and slide right into the grooves.

We had to replace the velcor on our utah.  BESURE you clean the area really well....we used something called goop off or something like it.  Ask at your home improvement store.  We cleaned it up and replaced all the velcro and haven't had a problem.  Been about 2 years.

Had to replace that velcro in the exact same spot on my Starcraft Venture. Got the new velcro strips, cleaned off the area real well, but it just did not hold like the orginal. So here was what I did to get it back to orginal holding power:

Cleaned the area throughly with isopropyl alcohol removing all traces of the former adhestive. Then wiped the area with some white vinegar (using a cloth) and let it dry throughly - aluminum will oxidize and the acid in the vinegar will remove it. Next, from our local auto supply store (I know the guy who runs the place), got some 3-M double sided tape. Now there's different kinds and my friend made sure I had the right kind for sticking to aluminum. Stuck the double sided tape to the camper, peeled the paper off the other side of the tape, plus off from the back side of a new strip of velcro, and they went together almost  like they were magnetized!

More importantly that was awhile back, like maybe a couple of years, and that double sided tape and the velcro has not even thought about coming loose.

I have used Marine Goop to reinstall Velcro for my AAR skirt.  It has worked well.:)

Uncle Dale,  Do you remember the name of the double sided tape you used? I have been having the same problem with the velcro comming loose on our Niagara. I have tried every thing including marine goop which lasted for awhile..Maybe the double sided tape will solve the problem..............

Bill ... how about I just send you some of it?

Had a chance to use the new stoole you made for me on a trip to the mountains last week and it worked like a champ! A lot better finish than the old one, too!

Sue - at the auto parts store (auto painting supplies), ask for 3-M's double sided tape. Make sure it's for auto use; color is gray and comes in two or three diffent widths, like 1/2", 5/8", 3/4" - I suggest you go with the 1/2" as it will be the cheaper and you can attached two or three sections of it side by side to get the width you need on the camper. I think about the smallest size roll you will be able to buy is about 5' in length and the cost should be somewhere in the neighborhood of $10.00 - it will store in a cool place for quite some time.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, it helps very much.

I had the same problem on my ol' 78 Palomino.
Every season I was replacing the velcro.

The last time I did it was about five years ago, and it still is holding like champ.

The last time I used the new velcro strip and coated the back and aluminum door frame with "Super Glue"  Still holding great.

I have heard others used pop-rivits to assure it never peels off ever again.
