Hi, I've been lurking on here for a while - I've noticed there are some great ideas and great minds on here - which is why I'm posting my question...

I'm fairly new to popups - although as a kid we camped popup frequently, but that was 25 years ago.  I'm the next owner of a '91 Jayco 1406 in superb shape.  We've had it out 2 times now (wet camping) but we'd prefer dry camping.  Before we can go dry, I need to make a few mods like adding a hot water heater, whisperking pump & new faucet; then an outside shower.  So let the mods begin...

The water holding tank is above the floor and is taking up the space where I want to install a Suburban 6 gal gas/elec water heater.  So I would like to remove the current tank and install a new one under the floor. Is this feasible? Where can I buy a new tank?

I've investigated other locations for the water heater, but the best place is where the current water tank is sitting.

Any other ideas?

Thanks for your thoughts.

In my 2000 Coleman/Fleetwood MESA the fresh water tank (20 gal) is under the floor, just in front of the Axel.  It is held in place, I believe, by metal straps (can't look now I have it at our lake house now).  I might suggest to find a tank look at marine outlets i.e. West Marine [ http://www.westmarine.com/] ; Boatersworld  [http://www.boatersworld.com/] or Overtons [http://overtons.com/]

This sounds like a pretty expensive mod. It could cost over $ 600.00 in my humble estimation.

My estimation includes the addition of a deep cell battery that will be needed for the on demand pump for the "dry" camping.

But if you decide to do it, I recommend that you contact Jayco first to get their blessing with the under floor tank method on your particular year and model PU. It could change the towing of your unit drastically, and they may advise against it. But that may not stop you, since you may be able to tank up with potable water at the CG.

But I would try them first before setting out gathering the "stuff" to make the mod.

I'm kind of new to PU and have been looking in to some mods.  Have you thought about a hot water on demand system.  I was looking at the hot water issue today.  I found a coleman hot water on demand system.  The heater itself ran about $150.  The accessories can more than double that price if you want or need them.
