Has anyone heard of this Generator?

I read a few posts on a different board regarding this generator. It is made in China but is actually a Honda based engine. It is supposed to be only 2 db louder than the Honda EU3000is and it costs $325.00.  Research it yourselves and let us know what yopu find but if this is the real thing, it would be a great deal.

The Honda EU3000 specifications list the noise level as 49dB at low speed to 58dB at high speed.

This one has a noise level of 68dB.

So to answer your original question,
"Has anyone heard of this Generator?"
I'm sure everyone in the campground will have heard it run once you start it up. Clearly not even remotely close to being an alternative to a Honda or a Yamaha low noise generator.

The Honda also comes with an electric start, which this one appears not to.

When you say "Honda based engine", what exactly does that mean?

This info was found on the RV.net message boards in the tech section. No it doesn't have an electric start, and no it's not as quiet as a Honda, but it's not as loud as a Coleman either.  So what I'm saying is, for the $1,675.00 a person could save on a piece of equipment that they may use a few times a year due to the fact that alot of the camping they do is at a campground with hookups. And, even though we are in a day that is riddled with remote controls, I'm pretty sure a persons arm can take strain of pulling a cord a few times during a campout rather than pushing a button, our grandparents did it all the time, it would be worth it to some people to save that kind of money. One would also have to be smart when choosing the time to start the generator at the campgrounds. Finally, To answer your question regarding the "Honda Based Engine".  I have to assume that it's like Toyota and Lexus or Nissan and Infinity. A Lexus engine is based on a Toyota and.....well you get where I'm going with this.........................it happens all the time.

I found the thread on generators over at RV.net, and WOW, there are 56 pages of discussion on these generators.

I didn't get to read all 56 pages, but it does appear that if you only dry camp a few times a year, these should be great.
Most campgrounds only let you run a generator during  the day, when there is plenty of other noise, so the fact it is not a super quiet unit, should not be a problem.

That's what I'm saying.... I'd rather know that I was camping at an RV park with full hookups and a $325.00 generator sitting back home in my garage in case I drycamp and not a $2,000.00  Honda.  That's all.

My brother-in-law bought one just like that only it was 2000 watts instead of 3000. He got it on Ebay for $115.00. It definately is not as quiet as the Honda but it is not all that bad. It seems to work just fine though.

Well Brian, I've been reading up on these Chinese generators, and for $325 they do seem like a great deal.
Now that we have the hybrid, we dry camp a lot less, mainly because we like the convience of using the microwave, the television and not having to be frugal with the lights,(all 14 of them).
We have enjoyed camping by the lake during the summer, but we would love to have a generator to be able to run the Air conditioning during the day, as well as enjoy all the other comforts, so it looks like we just might buy one of these.

It is unfair though to keep comparing these to the $2,000 Honda EU3000. The $1,000 Honda EB3000 is a better comparision, as they both have a noise level of 68dB, and both are pull start. The Yamaha YG2800i would also be a comparable unit as it also has a noise level of 67dB, and I know a few people here are very happy with their Yamaha's, and do not find them to be too noisy.

thnaks Brian I will check these out..ther may be hope to me getting a generator someday

I think once we pick up the new camper and get settled we may look harder at these generator's too.  I'm not in a huge hurry though because so far all the campouts we have scheduled are at full hookup sites. You guys will have to let us know how they perform if you get one.  Plus, my guess is if you buy one for $325.00 and you don't like it I'm sure you can sell it for right around what you paid for it.

I bought the ELM-3600-SS and think it is not too overtly noisy. It is rated at 65dB but I am not sure how to test this and confirm what it's actual noise level is.

What I am wondering at this point is if it can be made quieter. Reading other peoples posts about noise level has peaked my interest in this.

Can the muffler of a generator be improved and thus significatly reduce the noise level?

I haven't used it in the field yet, meaning with my wife during a camping trip. That is the real noise level test, does it pass the wife's noise tollerance or not.

If I could have afforded it, I would have bought an Onan and had it installed on top of the trailer, but my budget was too tight for that.

I ended up going the expensive route of buying 2 of the Honda EU2000.  The Honda's were so quiet compared to the other generators running at Assateague Island that you couldn't here the Honda when you went to the front of my site.  You heard the noise ones that were over 100 yards away.  My neighbors could not hear my Honda's, just the othere generators.  It sure was nice to have AC when it was in the 90's with high humidity.:)

tlhdoc,

I started out looking at Honda's myself, because I've had good experience with Honda cars. I actually looked at the Honda EU2000, which has a specified noise level of 59dB. I'm still not sure how to judge that in real life, but it is supposed to be quiet.

But the price of $1080 plus tax & shipping put me off and made me look around. That is when I found the Eliminator ELM-1000LB, which has a specified noise level of 60dB and only cost $250!!!

Then I started thinking about wanting more power and finally decided on a bigger model, one with wheels. It only cost me only $400 plus tax & shipping and it provides something like 2,800 watts.

Of course, now I'm wondering if I really need that much power. Still, the main point I wanted in getting it was to make sure I had enough power when I wanted it and was parked away from any electrical hook ups. Since I like getting away from people when I take my trailer out, that is important to me, even if most the time we end up someplace we can plug in anyway.

In a couple years, when I hopefully can afford something more expensive, I want a generator unit built in on the roof. Then again, liking cheap ways of getting the things I want, maybe I will mount this one on the roof. Could be done. I'll have to think about that one.

I just ordered a ELM3000 (3000 watt) via ebay for $299 + $78 shipping.  I read through most of the 90 page thread on RV.NET forum concerning the Honda clone generators - very convicting that this generator seems to be worth a try.  It is a little heavy -100 lbs., but it has both - 2 110v 20 amp or 1 220v 30 amp outputs, although will operate in either 110 or 220 volte mode, but not at the same time. A manual switch selects the voltage.  Several others on this thread, which started in March 05, have tested it with good results.  No problem running AC and other common popup electrical needs.  Also seems to be acceptable noise level (67db).

Early on these could be obtained for only $250 or so.

If it works as well as others have stated it will meet my duel needs of occasional dry camping trips and minimal emergency electricity to keep refrigerator and freezer running during power outages.  We have had several multi day power outages ranging from Hurricanes to ice storms.

Thus far I am pleased with company.  Just ordered last night - should receive in a 5 - 10 days UPS.

I received my ELM3000 (3000 watt generator) to day from the distributor in Buffalo, New York via UPS - I met the UPS delivery man at my door (3:15 PM CDT), it was not dropped in my presents (some people experenced bad handling). However, the way he was carrying it (108 lb), he set it down on its side. Using my hand trucks I moved it to the workshop (raining again). Upon checking outside packaging looking for any shipping damage, I noticed written in approx. 3 inch letters
