Hello out there!
Planning a trip to the Poconos this summer. Can anyone recommend a good State Park Campground in that area in Pennsylvania? We do like our electricity! Three that have been recommended to us have been Hickory Run, Promised Land, & Ricketts Glenn (no electricity).

We have camped quite a bit, when our kids were young, at Promised Land.  We always camped at the lower lake section because we would bring a boat on top of our pop up.    We could drop it off at the lake and turn into the campground.  I loved that from the office it was a 1.5 mile drive from the office to where the campground starts.  That section did not have lights back then so when it got dark it REALLY got dark.  Most of the roads and pads are paved, so it was great when the kids were small because they would pedal their bikes all day and sleep all night.  The sites are decent in size.  Even though the lower lake is much smaller than the upper lake (177 acres vs 400+) it has flush toilets and hot showers.  If you get out on the lake early in the morning you can see an abundance of wildlife close up like deer, snapping turtles and beavers. They also rent boats at the upper lake.

Here is a link to Promised Land in case you have not found it:

I camped once at Hickory Run but do not remember much other than there is a huge rock field left over from the ice age from when the glaciers worked their way down.  I mean big rocks, acres and acres big rocks.

Never been to Ricketts Glenn, but heard it is a great place to camp.  I'm told it is a small campground that fills up quickly.  I do not think this is considered the poconos.  Might be closer to the Endless Mountains part of PA.

You can access all of these parks though the link above.

Well that is my 2 cents.  Hope it helps you out a little bit.

Take care and Happy Camping!

I have not camped at Promisedland, but have camped at the other two.  If you want electric then you want Hickory Run.  They have a loop and a half of electric campsites near the entrance to the campground.  They also have a few pet sites in the electric loop if that is important to you.  There is the famous boulder field and a lake for swimming.  There are trails for hiking too.  If you are interested in rafting, you are very close to the a good spot at the Lehigh Gorge. :)
