i have a 97 coleman sun ridge and at the battery box there are three wires two wired together with a plastic quick connect and one wire with the insulation striped back any idea on how to connect this to a battery would be helpful

Assuming the two wires that are together are black, brown, actually any color except white, green, or gray... connect to the plus terminal.  White goes to the minus terminal.  Gray is rare, but is also used for neutral.

Does your trailer have brakes? If it does, do you have a breakaway brake switch on the tongue of the trailer? I have 2 black/positive wires going to my battery. One is from the trailer the other is from the breakaway switch. I have one white wire which is the negative wire from the trailer.

The standard Coleman tongue wires are white/negative and black/positive. They come up into a white plastic connector. Coleman battery wires have 2 wires. White/negative and Black/positive that go into the other half of the white plastic connector. The black/positive wire also has a small auto reset circuit breaker on the line.

You best way to go is to get a set of Coleman (now Fleetwood) battery wires, that I described above. Connect them to the battery and just plug them into the trailer. To disconnect the battery from the trailer just unplug the white plastic connector. The wires should be under $20 at a Fleetwood dealer. You will want to keep the battery unplugged when not in use, if your trailer has a propane detector. The propane detector will slowly drain your battery if it is left connected to the trailer.  If you don't understand what I have described let me know and I will take pictures of my battery/wires.  I hope this helps you, although I am not sure what the other wire is.:)

I think just the battery side connector with wires and a circuit breaker (fuse) was about $9.95 at my dealer.

Isn't $9.95 under $20 down in Georgia???;)

Fleetwood has raised the prices on accessories a fair amount, so I didn't want to list the battery wire too low.  My dealer has them for around $14 last time I checked.:)

If your 97 Coleman is the same as my 95, than the third wire is blue, right? On mine the plug with the black and white wires is the battery power wires to the camper like others here have said and the blue wire goes to the electric brakes for a breakaway switch and battery hookup.
