Viking brand?

I was wondering how the roofs of older viking units have faired? I have always had Coleman, but there is an 2002 Viking for sale locally that is loaded with extras that would cost more than I could afford in the Coleman brand pop-up. I'm concerned that this "great deal" may not be so great if the camper is not reliable. Are there long term Viking owners out there, and what are your experiences? Thanks

I had a 2002 Viking and had no roof problems at all. The 2002 models have the Filon roofs, I understand they are supposed to be top notch.  I had no problems with pop-up to speak of.  If I could change anything at all it would be the entry door.  I do like the doors on the Coleman's better.  A friend of mine has a Coleman Santa Fe and he swears the beds in my Viking were more comfortable than his. It's your call in the end.  Personally, I think they all have good and bad qualities, it's just what you want out of a pop-up that matters.  Good Luck.

We are the original owners of a  2002 Viking Legends and love it. We have not had any roof issues. We have spent 84 nights in the unit so far so I guess it is considered broken in.

thanks for your response. In reading some of the past postings on viking someone had a list of instructions for set-up. It stated the roof was raised until the cable is taught and then the ends are zipped closed. Do the bunk ends need to be unzipped each time the pop-up is closed? :S

Never heard of that! What would you do if you were packing up in the rain? :yikes:

There are 4 zippers behind each support pole (AKA emergency exits) that we unzip about 1/4 to 1/2 way to give the bunk end canvas a little more slack for folding. It has worked well.

Just curious, what floorplan are looking at. Our unit is the same floorplan as the 2470ST. We really like it for the 3 of us. If you have any questions please feel free to email me. I will try to help you if I can.

Thanks Mary. It's a 2206st that I was supposed to see this AM, but the owner called me at 7:30 to say someone was already there at the crack of dawn and bought it   (my loss). I do like the floorplan of the camper I now have (2002 Cottonwood) but the viking had heat, hot H2O, and the storage box for almost 1/2 of what I paid. I only have 1 more trip planned now that the kids are back in school, then I have all winter to look for some fantastic deal. I enjoy the hunt.
