Recently we purchased a set of visco mattress pads from Smart Bargins for our 2004 sequioa bunkends. They arrived and when we unpacked them there was a distinct ordor. We aired them out for 3 days now and though the odor is not as bad it is still there. It is in the material itself. We contacted Smart Bargins and they said to use Fabreeze on it. Better but still there. Has anyone else had this problem and if so  how do we get rid of the odor or do we live with it.

What kind of an odor ... chemical, fabric, rubber? The reason I ask is that some type manufacturing smells where a chemcial or dye was used seem to never leave the item; sometimes the "new" smell of something manufactured will leave after a little use.

Flyfisherman,
It is a chemical smell. More than likly it is a smell that is inherent to the material used in the pad, but it is a odor that is unpleasent. We may have to continue to air them out or in the end get used to it. Hopefully with time it will go away. I know other folks on this site have purchased these type of pads and was just curious if they had encountered the same problem.

Yep...anytime I get a new Memory foam mattress pad or pillow it takes awhile for that smell to go away.  I know exactly what you're talking about.   Febreeze would help, but more as a cover-up.

There is a product made here in Phoenix called Odorzout. It is all natural and safe around pets and children. It can be purchased at any Petsmart and some grocery stores. We used it in the PU  and refrigerator after returning from some pretty humid places. You can either give them a call at 1-800-88STINK or website //www.88stink.com

This is a great product to keep on hand. Hope this helps.

maromeo, a buddy of mine works at a custom foam manufacturer and I asked him about your situation.  He said what you are smelling is the chemicals that are used to make the stuff and to give it as much air as possible and in time it will go away.  He also said you might get rid of it faster by using a hair dryer on high speed and low temperature on it.  Hey, go figure!

are they washable??? if they are wash them and pour in a little distilled white vinagar...if not put some distilled white vinagar and water in a spray bottle...spray it well and let air dry...I 've used it to take out urine smell, animal urine(cats) and even puke smell...
