I was requested to post this as it is not on the groups web site yet.

The Southern California Chapter of the International Dutch Oven Society is having a Dutch Oven Gathering (DOG) January 13-15, 2006 at Doheney State Beach in Dana Point. The actual DOG will be on Saturday in the picnic area. Last year the members competition was for desserts. At the DOG there were 108 black pots for everyone to partake. It was figured we served about 300 people. There will be a couple of cooking demos on Saturday morning.

Keep checking this web site for more information: http://www.socaldos.org/index.html

My wife and I will be camping there Friday night. Come on down Saturday and watch and sample the food. Since this is outside, we don't count calories.

I would love to go, but it is too far away.  Do you know if they have anything like that in PA?

Tracy,

You can check for an International Dutch Oven Society PA chapter at http://idos.org/ It looks like the Western NY chapter serves PA, but you are also able to start your own chapter.  The Web site gives info about that too.

We visited last year's So Cal DOG that Moose mentioned.  We didn't camp but came up on the Saturday and brought a DO dish we had prepared at home.  That way, we didn't feel like we were mooching off of the gathering.  The food was tremendous (although I'm still convinced that Moose should have won for his dessert--he was only one or two points short). It was well worth the price of admission!!!! :) If anyone is thinking about going to this, GO!!!  You won't regret it!!!!  We'll see you there! :D

Hey Moose--what site are you and Paula in at Doheny?  We may join you for camping, as well as the DOG!  :)

griffsmom

Oops!  That was me, not griffsdad.  I (once again) pulled a Lori.  :o

Just fyi, The Southern California IDOS site now has the info for the DOG listed. The link is in Moose's orginal post.  The info is under the section "Calendar"

No fair, you stole my thunder!:p

My friend from work and I just booked site #88.  It is on the other side of the campground, but there were not too many spaces open that will fit her 30' 5th wheel...

I might drive down for the day -- just to see you all.  Maybe Brandy will join us!
