Your opinion would be helpful. We have a New Jayco 1207 PU. The UVW is 1870, the GVWR is 2950 and CCC is 1080.  Our tow vehicle is a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe 2.7L 6-cyclinder, the GVWR is 5080 and it say's the towing capacity is 2700 lbs. After reading some of the stuff here i want to make sure this is going to be a safe tow vehicle. We wont be hauling water around in the 23 gal water tank, so this saves alot of weight.  and the stuff we,re loading into the PU is'nt more than 200 lbs. and a new tow vehicle wont be in the cards for a few years because i just bought my wife a new car. I am going to have a transmission cooler installed in a couple of weeks. Your opinion means alot to me, thanks......Ed C.   :sombraro:

You should be ok but take a look at this article on our website - http://www.popuptimes.com/archives/ruleofthumb.asp

As long as you are not filling the trailer or TV you should be ok.  The best thing to do is after you are loaded for a trip, go to a scale and find out how much you are really carrying.  You might be surprised.:)

Congratulations on your new pop-up!

I have been pleased with the Santa Fe as a tow vehicle.  As you saw in your owner's manual, the towing capacity is greatly reduced if there are no trailer brakes, and is lower for the 4wd than the 2wd models. (Several dealers tried to sell me a pop-up without brakes).  Especially pleasing is the gas mileage. My wife and I averaged 20mpg over about 1600 miles of towing during an October trip.  I got the 3.5 engine because I was intending to use the Santie as a tow vehicle and I wanted the heated leather seats, wood trim, moon roof, cd changer, etc., that comes with the LX , but still find the shiftronic manual option quite helpful in the mountains.

I have used the factory mirrors, but would like to have some additional extension.  I have not purchaed the generic slip-on extensions for fear that they will damage the painted finish of the factory mirrors.  Be sure to let me know if you come across any useful accessories for the Hyundai.

Thanks Everybody, i just needed some reassurance I guess. Lynne and Scott thanks for your reply, its nice to hear from someone who has a Santa Fe also, this gave me more confidence in mine. I love my Santa Fe and so does my wife, so  I bought her a 2005 Sonata, which is what she wanted. Here in Vegas they cant sell a trailer without brakes, it's a safety and  liability issue. Thanks again.......Ed C. :sombraro:
