Just thought I'd share our recent camp trip with the PUT readers.
We went down on Thursday Nov. 17 to our nearby SP (30 miles away), and set up camp. Since DH is unemployed (InVista laid him off a year ago) he was going to stay all week. Well, I got the itch  and decided to call in "sick" on Friday so I could stay too.
DH went earlier on Thursday to get started. He asked me which #sites would be good so I listed some. He said "what about # 85?" "No", I said," that is right on the lake shore and could be too cold there." Well, you guessed it! He set up in #85. It was nice there when he arrived, but by the time I arrived that evening a cold front blew in and it was biting in that spot.
Next morning, I waited and he said "let's change sites" Oh yeah! Had to let it be his idea for less hassle. Went to the rangers and changed the site. Broke camp, folded the trailer and set up camp in our new site in an hour and a half. Good timing and a smart move. We got a site in the bushes protected from the winds.
We had a gorgeous weekend after that. 65 to 70 during the day and 40 at night. I went back home Monday and Tuesday to go to work (I teach middle school-7th grade) then I went back to camp Tuesday evening. We stayed through Sunday Nov 27, so 10 days in all. It was great.
We had Thanksgiving at camp. My brother and his family were camped there with their TT and my husband's sister and family were there with their 5w. My mom and stepdad came out for the day. Brother baked a spiral cut ham in foil on the fire pit and I "baked" a big juicy chicken in my dutch oven. It cooked faster than I thought it would. By the time we ate, the chicken fell off the bone, it was so tender. Excellent food!
We spent the days biking and walking and reading by the fire. What a life!
The only bad weather day was Saturday when it rained 5 inches in 7 hours. There was some serious ligntning and it poured all morning and flooded everywhere. I felt sorry for the people camped in tents. It was better to be off the ground in a PU, thats for sure.
In all, we had a nice mini-vacation. It was a great way to spend the holiday.

Sounds like you had a great time. We wanted to have a Thanksgiving camping trip but DH had just returned from a business trip to Denver and just wanted to stay home. I couldn't blame him.

You are in a very nice area. My brother lives in Lockhart and just purchased some property in Bastop. We spent last year's spring break with them and camped at Lockhart State Park. It was one of favorite vacations. We want to go back.

Take care.

Mini-vacation??  Sounds like the real thing from 'up north'!!

Sounds like you had a great time ... one of these years I'm gonna head south for spring break and join my parents ~ they're 'winter Texans'.

Thanks for sharing ... I'm sure it will help keep us northerners warm!!   :p

Thanks for sharing the pics.

How did you like Carlsbad? We haven't tried that campgrounds yet. How is the noise level?

Sounds like a pretty good trip.  I wanted to camp after we got home from my DM's Thanksgiving dinner.  No one else would go and I didn't want to go by myself.  We did go visit some friends that rented a cabin at a SP near us.:)
