Has anybody ever gone to Jalama? Its up in the Santa Barbara area. It looks pretty cool, but wanted to know if anybody has camped there.

OC Campers

We have never camped there but have heard good things about it.  It is a very popular place.  Only problem is it is first come (no reservations).

Camping Coxes

We camped there a few years ago during summer per recommendation of a SCCamper.  We stayed one night and left.  Here's why:

We had a primo spot at the top of the bluff with a beautiful view of the ocean and sunset.  My BIL lived nearby and drove there early in the AM to pay and secure a spot for us as they don't take reservations.  A long way for us to drive (and it would be longer for you) to find out there's no openings.

We were doing great until about sundown, when the wind kicked up.  The 5th wheelers around us told my DH that they were getting knocked around by the wind all night.  Uh-oh!  We're in a pop-up!  We coulnd't build a fire because it was so windy and miserably cold.  Fortunately we had made a Wal-Mart stop and I had bought a new movie and jiffy pop, so we huddled in the trailer and had family movie night.

Then there was the train track that runs alongside the campground, and the friendly engineers who honk everytime they come by.  Cute once, not so cute every two hours or so.

So the next morning after breakfast we took a vote and left.  We headed a little further north to Lake Lopez and salvaged our weekend.  While it's not my favorite camping spot, they did have the waterpark the kids loved and we were able to hang out around the fire and we even had wildlife walking around.
