Campers,

We are looking for recommendations for some campgrounds in the Niagara Falls area on either side of the border.  We usually camp in either state or national parks but would look at other options as well for this August.

Thanks,

How close do you want to be? I can suggest a couple of nice state parks - one of which is maybe 90 minutes drive, and the other of which is maybe an hour away.

Thanks for the response.  We are looking for something closer to Niagara Falls itself.  We have never been there so we are looking to be tourists for part of the time and do some of the sites.

In that case, you probably should check into Canadian places because the only places I know of on this side of the border are either not close or not very nice.

Bring photo ID's for crossing the border. You might not be asked, but it's best to be prepared.

We stayed at Four Mile Creek Campground in Youngestown, NY two summers ago. It's a state park. Although there weren't many amenities, the sunset over the lake was spectacular and made up for the relative plainess of the park. We stayed on site 285 (with electric) which was HUGE and all grassy- we played bocci right on our site. Great black berry bushes close by- picked many and made yummy berry pancakes. There are sites on the water which looked very nice- great view of the lake.

There was a bird-of-prey demonstration one day, which my kids really enjoyed. They have regular activities on the weekends during the summer.

There is a laundry facility on site. We did not use the campground store, so I can't comment on that. There was also a volleyball court and a soccer field.

The drive to the American side of the falls wasn't very long and we got free parking on the American side with our reservation sticker from Four Mile Creek. From there, we walked across the bridge and viewed the falls from the Canadian side.

Great trip- we hope to camp at Four Mile Creek again very soon.

WOW!! What a great sounding CG. If it weren't so far, we'd go there :D .
