Hello All
I am a newbie that has been watching and learning for about 6 mos now. I have been taking notes and making mods to my PU. So far I have completed the following mods.

Detachable power cable
Water Level Indicator
Programmable Digital Thermostat
AM/FM/CD Player
12V Outlet
Backup Lights
Outside shower hose extension with Quick Disconnect
Hanging Wire Shelves

and I have a list of upcoming mods. One of them being I want to make a 12V Fluorescent light mod. I have already bought the light fixture and the 1/4 mono plug. I want to wire this up with WHITE coiled wire. I see telephone handsets with them. But I am not sure if this would have the proper gage for 12V. I know its available since the Fan/Light Combo comes with it. So my question is can telephone coiled wire work or were can I get the proper gauged coiled wire. I have already checked with Home Depot/Lowe's and Radio Shack.

Thanks............... Brad

Welcome to the club!

I have used a coiled instrument cable for electric guitars with a 1/4 inch mono jack on either end to connect a battery operated fan light bought a WalMart that I mod-ed out for ourselves instead of buying those expensive pop up fan lights.  The cord I bought was in black, but they may be available in white.  I bought mine in Radio Shack, but they would also be availabe in most music stores.  I would think that this cable could also be used for a flourescent light fixture.

Please post pics when your finished, I've been contemplating doing the same type of thing myself.  I'd like to put more light over the sink/stove in our PUP.

Hi Brad,

I would not use the phone cord, as that is very small gauge stuff. What you want is available, as dthurk suggested at RadioShack and other electronics supplys.

I would try to get something 16-20 gauge, and stranded if possible. Audio cables are your best bet.
